Detachable Magazine or Hinged Floorplate

I am very indecisive and I can't decide between the two.

Anyone have a good reason for one or the other?

The reason is Savage makes a Hinged Floorplate, and a Detachable Magazine now - I want to get a .308 and 7mm Mag for hunting, but I don't know which to get.

unless you plan on taking the rifle into a firefight, it matters not.

I have rifles with both but you don't have to worry about loosing a hinged floorplate.

on the other hand you can find another magazine to keep with you loaded and ready to use.

When hunting and you're ready to unload, for whatever reason, the hinged floorplate is much quicker than to eject one round at at time till the mag is unloaded.

If the action is hot and heavy, not quite a firefight as Lefty says, but you get lucky and get more than one or two yotes come up on you. The mag would be nice to have. Big game, you will seldon get one or two shots off. if you do, youv'e probably done something terribly wrong in the first place.

With the floor plate, if you want o do some serious paper punching with custome loads, a S L E D is nice to use. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they work with a detachable mag.

IMO, & this is the only opinion based part of my response. The blind mags have more of a classic look to the rifle. Detachables are certainly usefull though.

Can't go wrong either way.

Firefight (noun):
An exchange of gunfire, as between infantry units.

And bulletproof are you being sarcastic with me?

I prefer the hinged floorplate in a hunting or target rifle. There are no thin feedlips to get banged up and cause feeding problems.

The latest models of Savage with detachable magaine load from a simgle stack, meaning you can't load the mag inside the gun. Them having detachable floorplates is news to me.

I tend to recommend the detachable mag versions of the older models because Savage magazines can have troubles and a detachable one is easier to modify or replace.
