For an Inexpensive Single shot, They arent too bad. If you handload DON"T exceed the maximum pressure trying to get more out of it, as they won't stand it for long.

My cousin has one that he likes very well. I am a big fan of the 45-70 myself but prefer it in the Marlin GG.

have the "buffalo classic" great rifle. Accurate and balances well. Some friends of mine hate the steel buttplate, but to each his own. I like mine. Havent tried loading top loads yet as my lead just came in today, so we'll see what happens. Not gonna try to push it, but not going with the lightest loads either. I figure it was meant to kill things, not tickle em.

I have a Contender in .45-70 they are about the same size and weight, and the contender kicks like a friggin mule. In rifle dress, there just is not enough weight to soak up recoil, I prefer to shoot it in pistol form, recoil is much more managable when the gun is not pressed into my body, but still I must wear a glove to keep the trigger guard from ripping the skin off my knuckles. It's a real attention getter at the range when it goes KA-BOOM!!!!
