I was wondering why I can get .300 and .06 bullets that are heavier than 8MM Mauser Bullets. I've found 220 grain bullets for my .300, but the heaviest 8mm MAUSER bullets I can find are 196-198 grain. I thought that because it was a bigger caliber, you would be able to get heavier loads. I was going to see which load works best for my 8mm and I thought I'd ask

i found that a lot has to do with the twist rate of your barrel they wont stabilize in flight then you get barrel pressures to great for older guns that excede your your safety ratings on your weapon

Check the Remington bullet charts, I believe they make a 220gr for their 8MM mag. The reason for the limited availabilty is they have to sell enough bullets to at least break even. 8MM Mauser is not a large market for reloading components, even when you include the 8MM mag. it a small market. On the other hand in .30 cal there are over a dozen cartriges that can use a 220 gr bullet. There is even a 250 Barnes original availabile.

Speer shows a 225 grain round nose, and Sierra shows a 220 grain Spitzer Boattail for the 8mm Mauser.
