| Senior Member | 22-250 Barrel life? The 22-250 launches a 40 grain bullet at 4000fps. Dang that's fast! :jaw: What's a barrel's life expectentcy?

| Senior Member | A friend of mine has had one for almost ten years, and his bore still looks brand new. He shoots mostly moly coated ammo out of it though, but he shoots it a couple hundred times every weekend for fun |

| Member | The general consensus is 3500 rounds or so but I believe if you don't overheat the barrel then it will last a considerable time longer as most barrel erosion is caused by the over heating caused from frequent firings. |

| Senior Member | A friend inherited a custom 22-250 on nice Mauser 98 action with custom stock. His father, R. Kinney built this master piece in 1956 six years before commercial ammo was available. No idea how many rounds have gone down the barrel. I did see in a reloading book that barrel life was longer than the 220 Swift. However many rounds that is. At 4000 fps, seams like barrel life is an issue. Thanks FMJ

| Senior Member | After a few thoussand rounds, there will be throat erosion. The caliber is too hot. (too much powder to bullet) Happens with 22-250, .243, WSM/WSSM calibers, etc. |
