The Cetme and HK clones are short and reliable. (from what I've heard) TACTICAL? AR of course. You can hook all kinds of shuff on the carry handle and front handguard. Flashlites, lasers. Aim Point sights, bayonet, night scopes, highbeams for night varmints, a clock for timed rapid fire, can opener and a back scratcher.

For 600 you can get a NICE AK, or a 500 dollar AK with a nice scope. Either way I would do that and just STOCK up on as much ammo as you can.

CETME isn't being made anymore - the parts kits have run out. Prices are climbing, and build quality was spotty. I'd go with a good solid AK then accessorize it.

I'd build an AR. A complete 16" A2 kit from Del-Ton would cost $475. At this point I'd then look for a Stag, Superior Arms, or Mega lower, any of the three should be had for under $100. Below is what you would get in the kit. RKT101 16" Rifle Kit Barrels : Wilson Arms 16" Heavy 1x9 Bolt & Carrier : Standard Bolt & Carrier Buttstocks : M4 6 Position Buttstock-Black Charging Handle : Standard Charging Handle Detachable Carrying Handle : None Flash Hiders : A2 Flash Hider Gas Blocks : Standard A2 Front Sight Gas Tubes : CAR Gas Tube Grips : A2 Grip Handguards : CAR Handguard with Heat Shields-Black Lower Parts : Standard Lower Parts Kit Upper : A2 Upper Here are some links for stripped lowers: AIM Stag Arms AR-15 .223 Receiver Stag Arms AR-15 .223 Receiver AIM Superior Arms AR-15 .223 Receiver Superior Arms AR-15 .223 Receiver Stag Arms Lower Receivers, Upper Assemblies, Buttstocks and Parts at Eagle Firearms AR15 Online Store Last edited by Pred; 08-29-2006 at 06:52 AM. |

Yeah, I don't really see a Cetme/G3 being a "tactical" weapon, meaning I wouldn't want to go house to house with that. I'd stick with either an Arsenal AK(used should be had for that price) or build an AR. Or maybe a MAK-90, those are some nice AK's.

Tactical means, "I want picatanny rails EVERYWHERE, I want it super short, with an LED Light, Lasersight, Compact Scope, Aimpoint, BatteryStorage Stock, Vertical foregrip, Bayonet, Bipod, Tactical Sling, Magazine holder, and to top it all off, a camo paint job." Well that's what "tactical" means to me. If I was you, which I obviously am not, I would start looking at used RockRiver Midlength CAR's. Find something with a 6-position stock, and an A3 Upper in a Midlength Gas system. If it doesn't have a rear sight, buy one, of any sort: Flip up, fixed, a carry handle, whatever. Have some sort of back up sighting system. Also, MAKE SURE that the barrel is chrome lined. Unchromed barrels tend to be significantly less reliable and accurate. If however it is a stainless barrel, you won't have to worry about it. Another possiblity for less would be to get, (I would never, but for your price range) get a DPMS M4gery. Spending less on a DPMS means less quallity, but not always significant. I figure, I'm spending 3/4 of a thousand dollars, why not pay two hundred more and get something that will rarely missfire. |

Century Arms was building or haveing them build those from kits and an American made receiver. $600 sounded right.

| Tactical is a term most LEO departments and military put on a weapon that is easily deployed and used in short, tight quarters. I am out of touch with military thought but LEO thinking...or used to be and I agree...is the only REAL tactical firearm is a handgun.
