Mini 14 Rail Systems

So, now that I have my long wanted Mini 14, I have to give it some spice! Now, for the most part, theres about 2 different rail systems out there. One goes over the action and the other replaces the heat shield. I would like to put a nice red dot on it, but I'm kinda debating, cuz its mostly gunna be a fun plinker. So, if i were to put a red dot on it, should i purchase the rail system that hovers over the action, or get the little nicer one that takes place of the heat shield? Any suggestions of comments would be appreciated!

Hey Mike,
I've got a Ultimak forward optics mount on my AK and it .is high quality, tough as nails maitains zero and helps disapate heat. I have an aimpoint comp2 dot sight that is night vision compatable ,they also make a compm2 that is not N.V.C. or you can mount a long eye relief scopes on it .I also have a standard side rail mount for mounting standard scopes on it Heres a pic of my rig.The first one is just theF.O.M.

The next one has both scopes on it and the standard scope is a Q.D. mount
