If its 5.56, it may not be a good idea as these are sometimes a little hotter and may develop unsafe pressures in a gun designed for .223.

I was impressed when I learned ALL Bushmaster rifles barreled in .223 will also shoot 5.56 safely. Colt wont claim that.
