BattleRifleG3 knows his stuff, good read.
My first Rifle was 30-06 caliber I still own it and it's never let me down.
But I hunt mostly now with a Marlin 375 leveraction. The deer I've shot with it go straight down for some reason and with my 742 06 I've had to track a few. But that's not the reason I changed.
I love leveraction........ and wish I afford to buy a Browning BLR.

Don't forget, the '06 was the U.S. answer to the 8x57 Mauser and was designed on a stretched and necked 8x57 case. I agree that it's amusing in this day and age, we are still making comparisons to 100+ yr old cartridges.
