Lefty: BVSS or LVP? My assumption is the BVSS ( lol, Beavus ) is more the dedicated Varminter / perhaps bench rester with its more pronounced curve to the pistol grip, the LVP strikes me as being the slightly better carry and shoot with out a rest style rifle. That LVP is a handsome devil.. I`m a month short of signing up, so i`ll do some research. I can ( if there are any left at this particular shop ) do a great deal on a BVSS, $200 less than elsewhere. But, I want the better rifle for me, more than a saving.

If your looking for a Savage, this model 12 F/TR Precision Target Rifle is raising my eyebrows: Savage Arms New 2006 Products Scroll down and look. It's awesome and sporting a 30" barrel and the new Target Accu-Trigger adjustable down to 6oz |

all the heavy barreled varmint rifles are supposed to adjust down to 1.5#'s. i am not 100% positive about the lvp. id' think the BVSS would run right around 10 pounds. mine definately is not carry friendly with added weight in the stock, the muzzle brake, and the very heavy scope- unloaded 15#'s.

The new Target Accu-Trigger action is slightly redesigned and looks like they will be selling it outright for those looking to mainly build. Check it out on their new list I posted. It's almost all the way down the page. And a nice addition chambering for the 6.5-284 Norma. Though I would be concerned with wearing out a button rifled barrel with such a round.. Still cool though.

button rifled, cut rifled- makes no difference to longevity. heat and poor cleaning methods kill barrels.

I would just be concerned about a factory Savage barrel running a cartridge that has been shown to have short life. Not trashing Savages barrels, just a personal concern. 6.5-284 Cartridge Guide Sorry if I highjacked the thread. That wasn't my intention. Last edited by myarmor; 03-21-2007 at 07:09 PM. |

alright, most of these overbore cartridges pretty much kill barrels at 1000-1500rnds. thats not a surprise, but my question is why do you think that a barrel manufactured by savage is going to go south any faster? trust me im not the #1 savage fan, but other than being a little rough, there barrel life has always been fine.

could be. i hate the junkutrigger and cheap plastic stocks, so i guess its conceivable people may not care for the barrels.

In Australia, do you have the same selection of Remington, Savage, Weatherby, CZ, Ruger, and such? Remingtons here can sometimes be had at great prices, as they often flood the market, but perhaps in the land down under availability is different.

BRG, we have a fairly good range for the size of the market we have. That`s the key element, its a much smaller market as you can well imagine with an estimated population of 20 million people. The SPS Varmint you suggested, can be had for $1,000 with a throw away scope and mounts, a standard SPS can be had for between $825 and 899 just give comparison. I just can not warm to the SPS series. The CDL`s I tried in left hand were absolutely lovely, bar the 4 mm of urethane on the stock and the maddening lack of calibre choice in the lefty range. In persepective: If I couldn`t get a 12VLP Savage for much less than 1300, then a VXI Leupold for 480 ish ( I`ll get it cheaper ) if you consider mounts, a nice new leather strap and a bag it`ll make 2 grand look sick. You can see why I`m taking my time in choosing. It`s terribley hard to get everything I wanted, so I`ve trimmed the list to what I require tailing off the what would be nice to have. So far, the VLP Savage is the closest. Please consider, I`m talking Australian dollars.
