| It seems to me that the wider the tolerance is the more dirt you could get in.Maybe a little dirt in that sloppy gun would help accuracy, kind of like glass bedding before the sand is melted into glass.lol. sam. |

| I witnessed 2 guys at our Wal Mart sporting goods greasing the bolt of a 770 and because of the negative repor I've read here and elsewhere I said to the 2 guys -- It's sucks don't it.... and they both said it sure does and then one handed it to me. I'll tell you what I liked it ! It's got nice lines (eye appeal) I liked the stock too if only Remton could improve the bolt, I might even have one...A.H |

| I got a 770 in 30-06 from Wal-Mart a while back for $270.00 (including $30 rebate). The action sucks and there is something a little funny with how the trigger feels with the new stock, but when your poor... $270.00 plus ammo and out the door hunting worked out well for me. However, be warned that even if they do bore sight the scope... it doesn't help much if they don't tighten down the scope mounts before they do it. Also, from what I read they improved the magazine retaining clip that was supposed to be a common point of failure in the 710. Overall impression: not flashy, but accurate and gets the job done for cheap |

| I went into WalMart Tuesday to buy some ammo and I had to wait while another customer bought him a Remton 770. To me it's a good looking rifle, I like the design of it. When the guy that had bought it left I asked the guy behind the counter what he thought about the 770 and his only answear was they've sold a lot of them. As mentioned in another post I witnessed this guy and another greasing the bolt on a 770. That same gun is the one I handled and it didn't seem to have any problems opening and closeing. If Remton will come out with a .358 win. caliber I'll be the first inline to buy one...A.H |

| Member | those guns aren't all that bad as everyone makes them out to be. my buddy has a 770 that he got as soon as they came out. It looks o.k.,yes the action was cheezy when he first got it but after all the rounds he put through it it seems to have loosened up a bit(maybe thats good break in,or it is rapidly wearing)it shoots well. He has the .270 and shoots the remington soft points and groups 1" @100 yards. It was very good factory bore-sighted, it came from factory 2" high and 1" right @ 100 yards which i understand is close to a 200 yard zero? I think that is very good for a "piece of crap"that everyone says they are. You can't beat the price either, as of right now my local walmart has them on rollback for $299.99, hell if they would have had a 7mm mag on hand i might have boughten it 2 weeks ago, but they didn't so i am opting for the savage accutrigger |

| According to Remington's website it has an improved bolt action and more durable magazine latch. These were the only two mechanical issues I've read about on the 710. Remember the 710 recieved very good reviews for its accuracy when it first came out and then there were issues with the original bolt having plastic or something in it and that was recalled and fixed. I have a .270 model 710 that I've had no problems with, my only complaint was the ugly stock and I painted it brown so it looks ok. I am wondering will the 770 stock work on the 710? It says it uses the same action and barrel as the 710 so I don't see why not. I would like a camo stock or even the black 770 stock looks pretty good. As far as my bolt action on my 710, I don't mind it. It has freed up some since new, but it is still "tight" compared to other guns. I was able to get 2 quick shots at my 8 point last year so I figure in the real world it must be ok. If anybody knows if the stocks interchange please let me know. Thanks. |

| I bought a 770 last year to hunt with and, as stated before, had to tighten the darn scope up. However once i got it sighted in nice and tight it was very accurate from there on in. I've never had a problem with it, no complaints about it, it's much better than the mossberg 100 atr that i had previously bought for value. I bought the 770 because i liked the style of the stock much better than the 710, though knowing it was upgraded from the 710. I also bought it for the price, the season started and i only had $300 to spend and though i had my heart set on a 7mm i was delighted when i found that they had one .308 in stock and bought it straight away. The bolt does have a funny wiggle when it's open, but once it starts back into battery, it's perfectly tight. I shoot ballistic silver tips through all the time with no problem. I only wish that I could get a bull barrel for it, but other than that it's great. |

| I was given a remington 770 in 7mm mag by my faimily for my 16th birth day. I really didnt know much about it at the time, and was caught completely off gaurd bu getting it, I was perfectly content with my 7400 270. At first I had my doubts, but a rather large paycheck, and a trip to the gunsmith worked out the kinks. I told him to smooth up the action, and stop the wiggle if at all possible. I also had the trigger adjusted from the heavy 5 lbs they come with and the mile long pull with the screen door screech half way through to a much lighter short crisp pull, After the adition of a bushnell banner 4x12x40 has made it my go to gun. The gun shot great groups out of the box, and after dumping a little bit of money into has become a tack driver, without any problems. Also, to me the gun looks great! My only con, after the work is that the recoil pad comes with is straight punishing. I'm 6'3 223 lbs and the gun kicks like a damn mule. |

| My 700 in .270 kicked like a mule too. I replaced the stock with a grey laminated one with a recoil pad on it and it's much more comfortable to shoot. As for the 710, I saw the bolt handle come off a new one at the range. That was enough for me. My most accurate rifle is a 700 ADL in .223. |

| The Remington 710 & 770 will sell good for folks starting out hunting and its not that bad a price for the package. none of the big manufacters can come close to that price even without a scope. |

IMHO, nobody can beat Savage/Stevens in the lower priced rifle market. They have package rifles that are of the same price as the 710/770, and are much better guns for the money. | |

| I'd suggest anyone looking for a good priced "starter" rifle look at the Marlin XL7 which was very impressive in a comparo test(July issue of "Field and Stream") in which it averaged better than 1" @ 100yds and smoked much more expensive rifles, in the process. All this for $300. ! Last edited by turner; 06-22-2008 at 05:42 PM. |

| I've lost count of the number of scopes I've had to re-mount or replace from that place. Whatta' they do, hire some kid off the street to mount scopes?
