What, in your opinion, is the best modern rifle? In my opinion, it is a tie between the Winchester Model 70 and the Weatherby Mark V.

I had bad experiences with my Model 70 (It was a recent model, and just wasn't consistent). I do like the Remington 700, but would probably get one of the Sako guns from Finland if money wasn't an issue.

After a little thought and because it use to to be the choice brand in America in years past and still an excellent choice today. Remington model 700. We have so many rifles to choose from in the United States it's mind boggling. I'll go with the 700...A.H |

I'm partial to the Howas, so I'd have to say the beautiful Mk V. But I'm fast becoming a believer in the 700. Still shocks me how well that OLD rifle shoots. Can I get an Amen?

The Savage LVP I handled today, cycled better than any other new rifle I`ve ever had in my hands. If I were loaded, given my penchant for bolt action rifles, I`d like a model 70, a Rem 700 ( CDL please ) and definitely a Mk V. But I`m not loaded, so I`ll put that LVP on lay away IF, they can get me one in .308.. It`ll be $1200 bare.. Pfftt Australia...

| The US Army uses a modified Remington 700 action in .308 caliber. I think the PSG1 deserves a good mention here.

For a tough, reliable bush rifle that is good value for money, it is hard to go past the Ruger M77. Although it is a better rifle with a Timney trigger and the new plastic stock is a bit more appealing than the old paddle that they had. If you have deeper pockets and stronger arms, Sako make a good quality, accurate and reliable rifle. Snow. Last edited by maroontoad; 05-08-2007 at 10:30 PM. Reason: Forgot my name |
