| Troll B' Gone ![]() ![]() | Just buy a new gun, man, no need to rebarrel. Yes, the 25-06 is a fine cartridge for the game you mentioned.

| Super Moderator ![]() | Why in gods green earth would you want to decrease bullet diameter to .25 when you are already shooting an 06 necked down to .27 caliber ??? That is what a .270 is.... And already a proven performer for the game you are hunting.... Rich

| Gun Liker ![]() | I concur with the above, why go to the expense of a new barrel for twenty thousands of an inch? A bee`s dick for the difference.

| I once shot a woodchuck at 336 lazer yds using a 75gr VMAX in a .25-06.I shot a woodchuck at 327yds using a 100gr fbhp in a .270win.Both were destroyed.I shot a 270lb black bear in the lungs at 35yds with a 100gr fbhp in a .25-06.I shot a 320lb black bear at 27yds using a 130gr fbhp in a .270win.The lungs were destroyed in both. The standard 1in10 twist in both makes it questionable to use heavier than 100gr in the .25-06 and 130gr in the .270win.Using 26" barrels and the newer slower burning powders both can really be improved on over factory balistics. Both can be loaded to shoot flatter than the .22-250.The .25-06 will be about an 1" flatter than the .270win in varmint class at 400yds but the .270win will have more power with hunting bullets. The .25-06 drops well below the 1800lb mark at 300yds,about 1100+.The .270win.is about 1300lbs at 300yds.I find no real difference in accuracy in either. You know you need a new .25-06 so you can compare it to your .270win.Tell your woman you have my permission. Both are high capacity casings and dont show their potential in less than 26" barrels where you can utilise slower burn rates. samuel. | Aside from a slight difference in bullet weights ,the 25-06 and 270 preform about the same, both being necked down 30-06s. |

| If you can get out of it cheaper than buying a new rifle then go for it mate, if not i would buy another rifle. 25-06 will serve you well. |

| The 25-06 is an awsome cartridge but if you have a .270 I don't think I would rebarrel it to 25-06 unless there is something wrong with the .270 bbl. Now if your gonna buy another rifle then get a 25-06, or if the bbl on the .270 is burned out I'd do it.
