I had the steel action Browning BLR in 30-06,used it for one Deer season then sold it.It was like carrying a log it needed wheels under it.

| AH,I know but aluminum has no place on a center fire rifle or shotgun in "MY" thinking. And the timing of the leaver cam on the BLR,is a hassle when cleaning the action.

If I am in thickets where I could be jumped fast by a Grizzly Bear then I want the 45/70 Marlin 1895 with open sights...10 ft. to 100-150 yards it is certain death for Mr. Bear.(And Bears and Hogs ain't much different sometimes!) 35 years of hunting Florida to Alaska tends to be educational ! Good luck with whatever you choose to buy and hunt with, and learn what your gun will do and how it shoots with lots of practice and you should be fine. Happy Hunting! Rich

Have had questionable experiences with Marlin Cowboy Lever Rifles. Loading was a chore, was smooth shooting though.

A marlin XLR 30-30 would be a good choice for any terrain and you can stretch your shots farther with the new lever evolutions.
