26" gets more velocity out of the short mags.

Midas and Lefty are both wrong! It's 25 inches! ............What's an inch amongst friends? Ha! Ha! I don't think you'll notice much difference between 24 and 26 inches. Maybe 50 to 60fps tops. However, I wouldn't go any shorter than 24 inches. The muzzle blast will become intolerable if you do.

You are correct Bob, a magnum with a barrel less then 24 inches, is just about useless. It'd sure make a good cigarette lighter, though
