Win 243

Hi everyone,

I am new here and I hope you guys can help me find some information on a gun. I recently purchased a win 243. It says mod 98 on it. It has 2 triggers and is a bolt action. I don’t have any books on guns since I usually only bow hunt. The gun is in excellent condition. It also has a scope. Seems like a fairly nice one but I don’t see any markings on it. I know I could go out and get a gun bible and probably get my questions answered. I paid $100 for it and I think I did well there.

Any how here are my questions.

1) what year was the gun manufactured
2) has anyone on this board owned one like this or similar and do like it
3) Would any of you have any idea how much it may be worth?

LOL

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

If there are no other markings the rifle is a custom rifle probably made on a Mauser action. The double trigger is an after market set trigger put on custom rifles years past and once in a while now. There should be a notch or low place in the frame at the back of the loading-ejection port on the left for the thumb to grasp a stripper clip.If this is the case that it is an old military action customised you may have a rare find or just a good hunting rifle. sam.

Mauser actually sold a modle 98 (based on the 1898 action) called the sporter that had a double trigger. it was made in various calibers in the early 1900s. It was/is also copied by several other companies. original mausers of this configuration (double trigger) are somewhat rare and price higher then the 100 you paid. That said if the double trigger is factory installed it would suggest to me that you have a knock off made by antoher company I belive several in the U.S actually made them including parker hale and gibbs I may be wrong though. If that is the case it is more likely that you have one of these. especially if it is stamped 243 win (dose it say that on the barrel) as that cartridge was introduced sometime after the original mauser sporter was made. regardless it is neary imposible to tell its age with out more info including the actual maker. and its value is dependant on its age, maker, rareity and condition none of which I can see from where you are holding it up. regardless shoot it and enjoy it

No matter who made it, the trigger alone is worth what you paid for the gun. I have a soft spot for these old sporters as long as they aren't hack-jobs. BTW, welcome to G&G!

I dont have a very good camera. I think you can see what you need to though.

Thanks

So how do I go about selling this thing and what should I ask for it? I did get 3 other guns that I wanted and this one. I really don’t care to keep it. I was hoping to get my money back by selling this one.

Thanks
