Seems again a lil high $ for a .303 Brit I'm assuming it's an enfield of course.

never heard of a tanker model but the jungle carbines came with a cone shaped flash hider. in the wholesale catalogs where i've seen them with the other variants they were a lot more expensive. if its a real jungle carbine, thats not that bad of a price

Be careful, there have been several fake jungle carbines built out of other models that were labelled as "tankers". I believe Gibbs and Navy Arms both made these.

Collectible aside...if this is in nice shape is $250 too much for a .303 British in a carbine size? My dealer wants $229 for old Enfields. I'm not sure of the model, but he has them with all his other surplus stuff, so I think it's just his usual stock.

TJ, I see Enfields for around $180 around here pretty often. I almost bought one from a local shop for $175 that looked nearly new but they already had it promised to another guy.

My father used to have one that I shot. I am in the market for a rifle, and consulted with billy, as he really likes his. I will be looking the second weekend of Oct. at a gun show. Sometimes they have batches of these out cheap. I want it as a quality shooter, not collectible.

There have been a lot of fake JC made here to.Have heard the way to tell is by checking the sight graduation. The JC had a sight set up for up to 800yards.The no4 had a flip app which had two positions,300y and 600y.And later had a flip up app adjustable to 1500yards.Its not hard to change a sight i realise, but getting hold of one is hard.A lot of the flash hiders were cut of the JCs over here before people realised their historical value.A very nice JC will now fetch from $500 aud to $1000 aud. With shitters still getting up to $400.

Cuzzin' there ain't no such thang as a "Tanker Model" Enfield. That's that. But, if you like it as a shooter, and it appears to be intact, with a good bore...let your conscience be your guide. Be advised, .303 Brit ammo ain't cheap, unless you reload. And then it still gets spendy. Yore cuzzin' JB

Oh...OK then. I mis-understood. Some of these days I'm gonna' get rid of my .303. Dies, brass, bullets, extra front sight blades, bolt heads, bayonet...whole 9 yards. I've got a very nice #4MK1, 2 groove barrel. But I don't take it out much. Keep it clean and in the safe. Yer Cuzzin' JB

The #5 jungle carbine as it has since become known is quite distinctive in appearance, particularly once disasembled the #5 has distinctive electro pencilling engraving of its serial and mfg information usually on the left side of the reciever ,once compared with a #4 rifle the #5 has very discernible lightening cuts milled out of areas where the barrell meets the action and other areas around the reciever, the bolt also has some additional milling to the body and a hollow bolt handle, having said that, some very good copies have been produced and verification is often reliant on a number of these factors including serial number tracing, even then the serial number system employed in the production of the 303 has some ambiguities and anomalies.
The 303 SMLE is one of the most enduring battle rifles in history and survives in use to this very day, a true testimony to a great weapon!!,the #5 rifle is a beatifull variation of this great weapon and although not widely used or praised it deserves its place in history.
I recently acquired a #5 rifle converted to 303-25 in great condition, the barrell appears as new,if it shoots anything like the other 303-25 #4 rifle i have I will be extremely pleased,my son shot a 200 lb running boar at approx 110 yds with the #4 303-25 using 100 grain spbt and a moderate load of 34 grains 2209,he hit it from behind and to the side in a quartering shot just below and behind the ear and it went down like a lead balloon,we took its head off and stashed it under a pile of basalt rocks on an old lava flow, almost a year ago now,I expect it to be cleaned up real good by the time i get back to it and will add it to our collection.
Regards.
