Like a 25-06 what's the best for the money?

I am looking to buy a 25-06 and would like different opinions on what brands you guys think are the best for the money. Have had Rem 700 BDL in the past and never had any problems with them, but I have a friend who blew one up with the 2nd shot through it (he wasn't hurt too bad, a few stitches and a lot of splinters). I have heard others talk about the declining quality in Rems. Thinking of a Tikka T3.

I had a friend who had the .25-06 in the Tikka and it kicked like a mule, ofcourse it was stainless and had a synthetic stock so it was fairly light but it would push you around. Accurate though if you didnt get flinchy.

If ya want a dang good shooter without spending lots a money the stevens 200 in 25-06 are very, very good shooters, topped with some good glass as good as anything else

I just bought one of the new Ruger hawkeyes in 308, before you buy please check these out.
They come standard with a target trigger that will starttle you because it is so nice and the forearms have been slimed down a mite. The floor cartridge dump plate is all steel now and Ruger has brand new hammer mills to manufacture there own hammer forged barrels. Now with all the upgrades a Ruger might be a good choice.
Check it out or there target model...A.H p.s. It's made in the USA !!!

The Tikka T3 is a nice rifle, if you were to get one in .25-06 you would never be dissapointed.

they have remmy 700 sps's in that, i was going to get it, but they sold out of them. It's a 500 buck rifle
the rest you can use on a good scope

25-06 is a great round, but i went for his big bro, the 30-06

25 06

I have one in a Savage 112 . Shoots great , right now this one has the 22-250 Pac Nor 28 inch barrel on it . I will put the 06 barrel back on and maby deer hunt with it this year. I also have a .222 barrel for it . The Savage is a great rifle for the price and so easy to customize, barrel changes run about 15 to 20 min and the selection of barrels and calibers are almost un limited.

Link to the 112 modified w/ 22-250 installed

Another one just in case the Savage beaters come out , in other words if yours don't shoot as well as mine , don't cut her down

From what I've read the Tikka is a great rifle met a couple of guys at work who have them in 308,300win.mag and 243 and swear by them. Just what I have learned dont know personally. That was my first choice when I started shopping but it is not in my budget, I fired the one in 308 and it was sweet and a tac driver considerding I havent done any shooting in a long time kicked like hell super lite model with synthetic stock in s/s. I liked it over the remington 700 in 3006 that dad had when we use to shoot. But whatever you choose I'm sure you will be pickled with it.

There is nothing wrong with factory load .25-06 but you dont get the best until you reload. When they first came out some of the better powders we have werent available. These newer powders make a big difference in some of the larger capacity cartridges like the .25-06. sam.

You may want to check out the Browning A-bolt and the Weatherby Vanguard. The Vanguard is surprisingly affordable. The A-bolt's can get a little pricey.

Just had a hunting knife custom built, the man who made it for me is a Browning man and has been trying to talk me into buying one. He has a 300 mag with a Leupold VX3 he is trying to sell me.

I have a Rem 700 25-06 in the heavy barrel Sendero model. Accessories are plentiful with Rem 700's as you know so that's why I would vote you stick with them. Some parts are interchangeble. The H&S stock that originally came with my Sendero now sit on my Rem 700 ADL 30-06. Yes that's correct I converted my ADL into a BDL.

Lots of ways to soup them up. Almost like a 10/22 they are.

What was the cause of your buddies rifle blowing up?

mr. b, I had a bolt handle break loose on a Rem 700 on my first deer hunting trip, so I'm not a big Rem. fan. If I were going to buy a new gun, it would be a Tikka T3 or a Stevens\ Savage. The Stevens is a bit crude, but is basically the same gun as the Savage with the exception of the Accu-Trigger. I'd also seriously consider a Weatherby Vanguard\Howa, but I'm not sure if it's chambered in .25-06.

Not completely sure, it was a brand new rifle and he was using Winchester ammo. He screwed up and sent it back to Remington. After they did some testing on it, they tried to say it was the ammo causing too much pressure in the chamber, but they still sent him a new rifle. He has yet to shoot it, I think he is still a little gun shy.

Well thats good they still stood by the product and didn't try to say he was shooting reloads improperly loaded.

Too bad it isn't in 25-06 caliber for you, maybe he would sell cheap, due to the trauma and all. Had a buddy that got scared with his Ruger 44 mag after he fired some stiff reloads in an indoor range. He never was the same after that with the gun. It was sold in a year.
