I have experience target practicing but not hunting.A double when one barrel is fired the fired bbl recoils away from the opposing bbl making the left bbl shoot to the left and the right bbl shoot right. They are sighted down the center between the bbl,s and centered between the two groups. This gives you the closest sight line between both bbl,s. They were intended for up front and personal shooting at very close range.Anything over 50yds would be considered extreme range.I would say at 50yds the distance between groups would be about 8".,maybe more or less.In Africa the brush is usually thick prohibiting shots at anything except extremely close range.Furthermore the bigbore guns develope tremenduous power but dont maintain it for any distance, necessitating short range to have power to penetrate.Doubles were not designed for accuracy, only power.I think they would be okay for deer and larger at 50yds and under. sam.

On one of my tours overseas, I remember seeing a "over/under double rifle...believe it was made by Valmet, if memory serves me right. Never saw it shoot, though. Cute gun, though.

I remember when Valmets were introduced to America. They placed an ad in Outdoor Life magazine and sometime later Guns and Ammo had them on the front page and a storey inside. I may still have the G&A magazine...Cuz EDIT: I've got the Guns and Ammo magazine here in front of me and it calls the Valmet- 3 guns in 1...Sept. 1980. Valmet model 412 The gun is a rifle/shotgun combo or either one. It is mono block construction to except different barrels. Last edited by ArkansasHunter; 10-20-2007 at 09:52 PM.
