| Member | within the next month or so i plan on getting a new rifle. with this gun purchase my focus is range and accuracy I already have purchased a Super Sniper 16x42 scope. i know these 2 rifles can hardly be compared with, but i cant make my mind up between an ar-15 .223 w/ 24" barrel or a Remington 700 SPS varmint .308. the performance of the .308 is amazing but i think the semi-automatic of the .223 would be lots of fun. I leave my hunting up to the old school .50 hawkins and the new school Hoyt Magnatek, so this is just for range fun. If any of you could have one or the other what you take and why? GO. Sorry forgot to say i can not AFFORD an AR-10 24" or the M1A...PowerBall do me good Last edited by CrazyBullCack; 02-01-2008 at 10:05 PM. Reason: forgot something |

| Senior Member | Well, for pure fun I would pick the AR-15 - semi-auto and more fun. Also, you can afford to shoot it more. But, since you already have the scope for the 700, you may want to think about finishing that off as well. Or, you could go with the DPMS LR-308 and have both - sorta. I actually sold the exact Rem 700 you are wanting to buy after I got my LR-308. The DPMS is just as accurate and semi-auto. Just make sure you get your AR before 2009!

| Senior Member | I think your leaning to the AR. Go for it. I have a CMP-DCM Bushmaster Competition model. Love it! I was already shooting state competitions out to 600 yards. This little black girl has the 1-8 twist rate heavy barrel and have to shoot heavier bullets like; 75 to 77 (or 80) grain bullets which I load myself. The 55 grain bullets are not allowed on 600 yard shoots. But if your not shooting that far, get the AR - 15 anyway. There's time to get the Remington.
