| Member | Single shot rifles? Single shot rifles aren't listed under "General Rifle" but I couldn't find them anywhere else so here goes: I would like to hear some feedback form owners as to accuracy of the various single shot break-action rifles currently on the market, specifically the Baikal. I have been looking at a .308. The only single shot rifle I have had any experience with is my H&R Buffalo Classic in 45-70. I am happy with that but would like a .308 to shoot MOA. Am I likely to find a break action that will consistantly give that sort of accuracy? |

| Senior Member ![]() | H&R has many more calibers for sale and in different styles per say. Have you not gone to there web site and looked at the many singleshot rifles they offer ? If not you'll be delighted on what you find. As far as accuratcy I'm of the old school and feel like some folks get lucky and some don't when buying a new rifle. But for a couple years now gun manufactures are building more accurate rifles. H&R has a rifle named the UtraVarmint/Ultra Hunter I'd love to have this one to coyote hunt with but it only comes in 204 ruger...22-250...223...and I wish it came in 308 but harken they have a rifle named Survior that does come in 308 that looks good and has a 22" heavy barrel. I'd have it too. Plus they have other's chambered in 308 go see. |

| Senior Member | Rossi I am extraordinarily pleased with my single shot Rossi and plan to purchase the heavy barrelled .243 later this spring. Single shot rifles are now available in higher quality. They allow for owning interchageable barrels in other calibers in many instances. They are more cost affordable than other designs without sacrificing quality. In one way, every thing is a single shot rifle in that so often you only get one good shot in a hunting situation. |

| Senior Member | I don't have any experience on the Baikals, haven't heard much either. Pretty nice looking guns though, for the money. I have a few ruger #1's, but my TC Encore gets used more than anything. I can't guarentee you'll get a factory barrel to shoot 1 moa or under, but most are good from what I hear. I shoot custom barrels for the most part, and have had a trigger job done. With that said, I have barrels that shoot 1/2 moa and better. There are some custom barrel makers out there that I wouldn't use, others I would. But for the most part, I settled one , and won't go elsewhere from an accuracy standpoint. Basically, it's how demanding you want to get in the accuracy department. And what kind of budget, have to work with. Dave

| Troll B' Gone ![]() ![]() | I have owned and shot NEF rifles for several years now, and I have never really had any complaints. All of the ones I have owned shot 1 inch or better, acceptable hunting accuracy. They are pretty good little rifles for the money, and I am a huge fan. I also see that they are now chambering their rifles in 7mm Rem mag, and .300 Win Mag, i might have to try one of those.

| Member | I bought a Rem/Baikal single shot 308 last summer to use as a back-up rifle on a Wyo. deer hunt... I didn't get a lot of time to work with it, but it shows potential as a accurate rifle. I started out with some factory loads, it shot in the 1.5 to 2 " area.. then started trying some handloads, it got somewhat better, it shot in the 1" to 1.5" range... I don't have my records with me, ( in Fla. for the winter..) but recall varget powder and a 150 sierra gameking bullet was decent. A couple of glitches I had with the rifle were difficulty in removing the iron sights for scope clearance.. and the intigrated scope rail is short. I finally found that a high quality .22 scope mount works out the best, the cheapies would slide on the grooves under recoil. hope this helps.. Bob |

| Moderator ![]() | I have several single-shot .22LR rifles, best of them being the superb BSA Mk.II International Martini match rifle, used in Britain before the Walther and Anschutz bolties took over in match shooting. I also have the Czech-made BRNO ZBK-110 break-open rifle in .22 Hornet - a very accurate little rifle, even with a stiff and gritty trigger. It is laser-accurate using the 45-grain V-max moly-coated handloads I got from the gunshow many years back. I used them all now, so need to start reloading for it - try to match those good loads!

| Member | I have Rossi .308 single shot. It works fine, seems to be well made. I used it to teach my Daughter-in-law how to shoot. She harvested her first deer with it last fall , 1 shot through the heart at 80 yards. |

| Member | I talked to H&R the other day, and the Mags are cancelled for 2008. I had a .300 Win Mag on order. I'm sending a Handi Rifle receiver and foreend back to NEF today for three new barrels, .30/06, .22-250 and .357. |
