Springfield 03 rifling Not too long ago I bought a springfield 1903, its an origanal 1903 with a sporter stock and a V notch rear sight drilled and tapped on the reciver. I took it to a gunsmith to have it glass bedded free floated, for a scope. the rifling is very crisp, My question is, with my handloads, 2 out of three shots will be touching each other, than the third will land 3 inches away, there is light rust, or copper or somthing between the lands. What is going on?!? Last edited by Mr Marksman; 02-17-2008 at 06:38 PM.

Very bizarre. I to bought a 1903 in a sporter stock. Rather than bed it, I restored it to it's original form by putting it in a 1903-A3 stock and buying a handguard. I haven't had a chance to see it's accuracy yet, but the rifling and crown are in very good condition. I hope someone has an answer to your question.

Check the scope and its screws for tightness. How are you putting the powder in? It's possible you're flinching too. How fast are you shooting?

Sounds like the barrel is heating and throwing the third round.Give it a long cool down between each shot and see if it still does it.Also see if it shoots good groups after it warms up.You should get some good copper solvent and clean the bore.I like Butches Bore Scrubber. There are others as good but Butches isnt rough on bores. It will take some time but it pays. sam.
