7mm Dakota

What do any of you know about this cartridge? Have you shot one or know a bit about it?

My dad has a .330 Dakota and i do the reloading for it for him, its a bloody great cartridge. Just wondering what your experiences are with the 7mm Dakota.

They do use a little extra powder, but not a great deal more.

Thanks for the input fellas, the reason i am asking is i am thinking of buying another Kimber and having it rechambered to 7mm Dakota. I think it would be a real handy cartridge over here, and like i said i have had quite a bit to do with the .330 Dakota and am nothing short of impressed with it.

Keep the comments coming, i appreciate the input.

I was just thinking something different than normal, something you dont see every day.

Morning Nathan, my buddy also has a 330. I' ve had a few 340s and we find the performance to be very similar. I would assume the 7mm would be very similar the STW. Pretty much all you're going to get out of the 7mm bore. 160s at 3300 fps shoot extremely flat and kill very well. The only holdback if any would be that brass and dies are fairly expesive.

I am not familiar with the 7mm Dakota, but am with the 7mm STW.It is one great cartridge for bigger game at extended ranges. With the right 160gr bullet with a 200yd 0 you can have about a 16"drop at 400yds and still be about 2200ft lbs.I always thought that would do for most of the hunting I would want to do.I carried a .375H&H quite a bit years ago.It was a M70 pre.I loved it but it was stolen. They got it back but they said I had to have the serial # to get it back.I didnt have it.I know the Mich. State Police Officer that has it now.Everyone!Write the serial # down on your guns. sam.

That is terrible that your rifle was stolen, and even worse that they did not give it back to you. I have no time for theives. My .375 H&H is also a Model 70 but it is a push feed, i will never part with that rifle in my lifetime. Over here all our firearms have to be registered so there is not much chance of us forgetting our serial #'s but that is good advice for those that dont have to register their firearms. I might go and look for a bit of info on that 7mm STW sounds like a handy round and it is something that you dont see very often over here.

mtm1 thanks for the info mate.
