Looking for good .223 rifle

Hi i am new to this forum and am looking for a nice, accurate .223 rifle, between $500-$650. Can be bolt-action or semi-auto. I was looking at the CZ 527 for mostly target shooting and maybe small game shooting.

Take a look at the Remington 700 SPS VT in .223. It has a carbon bull barrel and an incredible trigger (the x-mark pro) that breaks like glass. I have one in .204 and love it. It also has two front swivel mounts so you can use one for a bipod. Great shooter, and it's within your price range.
Remington Model 700™ SPS™ Varmint

Welcome to the site. There are a few brands of AR-15's out there that can be had for that price used. Check out GunsAmerica - Connecting Gun Buyers to Gun Sellers Since 1997 or GunBroker.com Online Gun Auction and you should be able to find one on there somewhere. Unless you plan on getting an AR-15, I would get a different caliber. Military calibers are getting to be expensive. 30-50 cents per round. When I started in on the AR-15 wagon about 2 years ago, I paid 24 cents per round. I enjoy it though, so no biggie to me. If you really like .223 then go for it. But if you don't mind a different caliber and would like to save a bit of money, then do that.

You can also get a WASR-10 calibered in .223 for under $500 if you look hard enough.

I bought my dad a Tikka .223 last year and he loves it, and has had no problems with it.

Savage makes excellent firearms. I would buy a Savage over a Remington in every situation. However if you want to spend about three times as much for a rifle you will never have to replace, look into HS Precision.

The "experts" claim the Savage is the most accurate out of the box.

I think Savage guns are very good. I plan to buy a rimfire Savage over the CZ. However, on a quick check I'm not sure that Savage offers a centerfire gun that is competative for price and quality to the Remington SPS that was recommended by rocky mountain boy. The Remington 700 action is probably the only production action that is considered good enough (with tuning) to be competitive in benchrest target shooting.

If you have any interest in accurate target shooting then a semi-auto is a non-starter. You want to narrow your search to a bolt action with a heavy barrel.

I don't like Mini barrels. About 5 shots and my Mini-30 would shoot what is best described as a shotgun pattern.

I sold my tricked out (folding stock, flash hider, detatchable mount, pistol grip, scope, 5 30 round mags) Mini-30 8 years ago and bought a Rem. 700 in .308 with a Simmon AETec scope.

I regret selling just about any gun I've owned but that Mini.

I don't know what is so bad about Mini 14s Just because they aren't tack drivers don't mean they arent reliable and useful. Just ask all the deer, turkeys and assorted critters I've killed with mine. I've carried one for protection on my boat for years although during the hey day of drug pirating I backed it up with my browning 1919 a4 machine gun and what other guns my crewmen brought along
