.223 as the ammo is cheap and for reloading so much to choose from, easy on the shoulder and yet you can still shoot out to +200 yards.

Has to be the 22. Its cheap to shoot and can take out anything on the planet. Its killed bear, elephant, buffalo etc you can buy a 1000 rounds for under a hundred and carry them without a trailer. I like many calibers but if I had to have only one it would be a 22. PS I know its not legal for big game but it has taken them. I once heard of a guy that killed a bear with a 22 derringer.

My favorites, in order: .22 LR: cheap, accurate, and easy/fun to shoot. I can loiter at the range all day for less than the gas it takes to get there .45 ACP: Just goes so well with my favorite pistol (1911), great self defense round For me, the caliber tends to be less important than the firearm it's chambered in. Cost is an issue, too. Love shooting the .44 Mag and .300 winmag but cringe every time I take them to the register. Then again, I'm a paper puncher and not a hunter so I really have no need for 95% of the chamberings out there. For self defense, there may be rounds that are slightly better than the old standby's like the .357 Mag or .45ACP, but not enough better for me to justify switching over. Add in the fact that there are real world shootings that prove the effectiveness of these cartriges and loadings. How many real world shootings have there actually been with say .45 Super, 10mm, .357 SIG, etc; let alone any one loading of that round. With all the new calibers (and rebirth's of old ones), I wonder how many of them offer any kind of real world improvement over existing calibers versus just another thing to sell more guns and give something for the gun press to write about. |

I have a favorite for every diffent use or purpose. I do however, have multiple guns chambered in the 6mmAI. Something I can't say for the rest, but all are use specific. Dave |

| Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....does this mean a .338 fed in ...say a Ruger hawkeye might be the perfect rifle...oooops...wait, maybe its a Hawkeye in .358 with a 250 gr "X" or Nosler? sorry I was simply wondering...lol. Heck, the idea of a 750 carbine in 35 Whelen could work too! All right, I'll go back to my room now..... |
