I am not sure what type of model the savage was. I am mainly interested in the round and then finding the right gun for me then (cheap). I own some land out bush which i would use the hornet on, mainly rabbits and crows etc. The martini sounds like a good option to me but i'll have to get some ideas.

My aussie friend, you said that there was a cheap new rifle, what are these and how well do they shoot? I'm in Brisbane, ready to head up north to live....any day now, lol.

Cheers

p.s casting my own projectiles sounds like a bad idea. what would a bag of 100 hornet pro's cost roughly?

Dont understand what you mean by temperature.I live in Michigan,USA and we have air conditioning in summer and heat in winter and the powder is in a room with normal house heat control.I never noticed temp. having any effect. This sounds like you need an Austrailian to answer this one. sam.

You dont know as much as you think about our situation.I own more than 20 firearms, and the reason we are most likely paying more for guns is the exchange rate on our money.Nothing to do with your answer.Plenty of shops and dealers doing alright from selling guns and ammo here.

What do you mean the temp is affecting it?are you freezing the bullets?or getting them really hot?Win powders dont like being heated up.They usually make the load hotter when cooked.

from waht i have been told the new powders of today such as adi aren't as affected as the older ones, we had a week of 40+ here one week then back to 18-25 the next, i was just wondering if anyone else had exprienced anything like this before, i have checked the scope and the bedding, it still shooting submoa at 100yds it just shifts the point of impact.

Yes Hornet i've heard of this before.

Lots of southerners go way up north only to find their hand loads dont perform as expected.
I've also had ppl here in winter whose handloads have differernt point of aim.
Also altitude can affect your bullets even at the 2400' im at.

The only solution is to test fire your rifles before hunting.

Most of my varmint load range testing is done in the winter when the temperature is often below 0 C. In the summer when I'm out shooting prairie dogs the temperature can reach the upper 30's C.

I usually load my Hornet with H110 and I haven't noticed any point of impact changes. I have never tested for point of impact vs temperature though.

I have seen signs of high pressure with some loads (other calibers 223, 22-250) in the summer that were fine at lower temperatures.
