| Senior Member | So me and th wife went to the Fort Morgan MG Shoot this past friday, and what a blast. I finaly got to shoot not one but two .50 cals. The first was a Steyr, I must say it is a very nice gun. I shot the longest shot I have ever made with any gun with this weapon and it wasn't even hard. The target was 830 yards away anf there was a 15 mile an hour choppy wind east to west. So I drrew a beed about two inches above center and four inches to the left, (the gun was sighted in at 500 yards) and wouldnt you know it I hit dead center. My wife was proud of me lol. After that I shot other misc. targets trying to get something to blow up (certain targets had dynamite) none blew up but the rifle shot everything I aimed at it. (Thhe Steyr was also supressed) The second .50 I shot was ofcourse a Barrit, which even though the Steyr is a great gun I liked the Barrit the best. It wasnt surpressed which made the recoil of the Barrit half of what the Steyr was. The Barrit was dead on as well and even though I didnt try for the 830 yard target, I did shoot 700 yards without any problems. Before I shot a .50 cal I could never justify buying one, but now all I can think about is what I have to do to get one. The feeling of watching the explosive tip bullet hit a target that far away was fantastic. I own lots of short to medium range weapons but nothing realy long range. That is going to change quik, shooting long range may be more exspensive but it is also more rewarding. So Yes I did shoot machineguns as well, after all it was a machine gun shoot. While I was there I had the honor to shoot a thompsan machinegun, Mp5, AK47 (have one but its not full auto, Aks shoot better full auto), Glock 18 (fun, fun, fun), PS90, Uzi, M16, M1 Garand (I have never shot one before), and a Steyr SOG. Out of these my top three for most fun are the glock 18, Uzi, and the thompson. The glock 18 was incredible little beast and I must say if I was doing room to room assault I would want this gun. It was a 9mm and was easy to control, at 50 feet I was able to hold steady nonstop fire on a fifty gallon drum barrel with every shot a hit ( big whoop you say? trying the same thing with a M16 and I couldnt do it that gun is all over the place on full auto). The Uzi was fantastic as well with no recoil and incredibly easy to hold on target. It surprised me because I was allways told that they are nor accurate, but hitting targets at 150 yards was no problem (single shots of course). And What can I say about the Thompson, its a dream. Shoots a** kicking 45 and kicks like a 22. Now Im not saying that the other platforms weren't anygood, just the three realy stand out in memory. It was a great day, and with the exception of my honeymoon, The best day I have had all year. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Senior Member | Me and the grandson were planning on going to that, was really looking forward to it. But he's on a baseball team now, and their first game was that Saturday. By the time it was over, if we'd left then we might have made it there by sundown, and the weather had changed drastically too. And the league has them playing games every Sat. and Sun. now, it's crazy. There's another shoot coming up the first weekend in May, down by Cheyenne Wells. We've already decided he's going to have to miss a game or two that weekend. I already have a room reserved in Burlington. I have a serious hankerin' to fire an M2HB .50 cal, have for many years. We can each get a belt of 30 rounds for $75 per belt, I think it'll be a hoot watching an 11 year old boy shooting the big Browning! I'll be sure and take videos. Oh, and FWIW, this is a nationwide forum, I bet most folks here don't know where Ft. Morgan is. There's probably only a handful of us Coloradans here.

| Senior Member | Wish there were shoots like that in my part of the world. One major reason I want to take a Las Vegas vacation is to go to The Machine Gun Store and buy ammo and time on a Thompson like Dad carried in the war. I'd also like to try an MP-40 if they have one; Dad carried one of those for awhile too. And of course there are all the longarms in the pawn shops and the gun shops to consider. To hell with the casinos; gambling has never appealed to me. But the chance to try a tommy gun.... well, that's what gets my juices flowing! |
