| Winchester Model 70 Help plz
So i was cleaning my gun and messing with the bolt. I took the bolt out of the gun and somehow turned it, so i guess its in the loaded position but its out of the gun and i cant get it back in. i cant figure out how to turn it back, its seems to be locked in that position and im not sure what to push or what to do to get it to turn back. anyone know ? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

you aint the first to do this the little tab under the bolt that releases the bolt to fire put on edge of bench push down and turn bolt body to re-align the back part with the safety has to remain in place |

oh ok sweet. i was pushing that little tab in, but i guess i was being a puss about turning it. just took a little more force and voila! haha. thanx. also, the main reason i was messing with the bolt is that every since i got this gun about 10 years ago or so, the safety has always been almost impossible to engage. ive never known why, but i wish it would just pull backwards easy, but it doesnt. its pretty useless really. i just dont ever load a bullet till right when im about to shoot. anyone have any ideas why? |

ok, im bustin out the lube right now, but i honestly dont know exactly where those points are. ill just lube it up and see what happens. well, i lubed up all the spots that seem to lead or be connected to the safety, but no luck. it still wont budge. its not that its stuck solid in the fire position, it has some play and moves, but just wont snap back to half or full safety positions. Right in front of the Safety shaft (you can't see it)is a spring and PLUNGER, inside of a machined hole. You have to completely disassemble the Bolt to get the Retaining pin out and remove the safety to get to the spring and plunger. This is a job for a gunsmith. You might try soaking the rear section of the bolt in mineral spirits for a couple of hours , wipe it off, insert the bolt in the unloaded rifle, then using a piece of leather on both sides of the safety, tighten a small crescent wrench against the leather around the safety lever, and GENTLY ( do NOT Force it very hard or you can Break the safety) see if you can move it into the safe and then the Locked position...work it a few times if you can, then remove the wrench and leather, and work it by hand a few times...it may just be a bit of a Burr. may need a little lube to get in there if it got a little rust on the plunger, mineral spirits will penetrate it.
