If you are expecting both accuracy and power beyond 100yds,go for the centerfires,If you are only punching paper, the rimfires are nice out to 150yds,on a still day. sam.

YEah the ol 17 loses its effectivness after about 150 yards as the bullets no longer expand. PLus the wind drift gets to be in the 12" plus range.

well the conditions were perfect, no wind, solid rest, known distance. nice head shot though put him down, Now I know I will get sh1t for this but I really didn't care if he was wounded or not, we have a huge problem with yotes in western MD... they are packing up like wolves there are so many...

A 22-250 is bigger than a 223 and is also the best varmint rifle I have.

my 223 WSSM shoots .24 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards at 300 it is at the .7 inch range and at 500 on a good day we are looking at a little under 2 inches and when you shoot the ground hogs the damn things just go BOOM and roll over, plus my 50 gr ballistic tip works equally well on g-hogs as they do deer, cant beat the velocity either mine is running at 4,337 avg with the 35 gr guys and this is chrono 4,590 from a 26 inch tube just defistating on whatever the cross hairs touch...

your 223 WSSM is a great round but at those velosities 338 i fear that you are going to get a lot of throat erosion in a very short time at least that is the problem i have seen with this particular round with the guns of this chambering that have come into my shop. just my opinion.

yeah but I absolutely love the round and as far as i am concerned when you purchase an over the top round like the 223 WSSM ya know what you are getting in to and I personally have a 28" shellin barrel waiting for this one to die, call me stupid but i find it a badge of honor when you can take your gun to the range and blow those kind of groups even if it costs you a penny to do it... plus it is totally worth it in my book for everything it does for me.

Well those groups are pretty impressive. However where i live i would go witha 22-250 cause the lack of ammo for a 223 wssm.

i reload for mine so ammo avalibility doesn't mean anything but it is leaps and bounds over the 22-250

If you are fond of burning up barrels, I have a 22/06 that can do the job. 30" bbl helps the speed build up but throat erosion can be terrible even tho it is chrome.

I only take it out occasionally just to keep my hand in. Sure makes a mess out of varmits!

nice, 22-06 and irish I will go off the bench but off hand I am no good probably 2 inches besides the gun weighs 13.5 lbs and with a 8x32 power scope off hand is very shakey. what kind of velocities are you getting with a 22-06? always was curious about this round...
