As long as you and your rifle perform to your satisfaction, why do you care what those other clowns think? You can have the finest rifle in the world, but if you can't hit what you point at with it, it's worthless to you, by my way of thinking. If you have achieved a good marriage of man and rifle with your customized Argie Mauser and that .280 whose group you showed us, good for you! Natasha (my 1926 Izzy) and I are still getting acquainted and we haven't managed a group that tight yet, but we'll get there, especially after i put a scope on her.

I like that nobody else at the range will have one and it makes it very unique. It's a simple rifle to clean but makes a big bang. I like that it kicks like it looks like it would. I specially like the look of the m44. Nice chunk of wood with a big bayonet but compact enough to hunt with.

Never heard of a .280 Remington before. How does it compare to a 30-06, or a .270 Win? Heck, since we're talking about 7.62x54s, how does it stack up to them as a round? |

Ive got quite a few firearms. and 3 of them are mosins. i like history i can shoot. p.s. ive got mausers, sks's etc.along with modern precision rifles. they would all kill a deer. btw that m-44 does SUB MOA shoot whatcha got.

| Senior Member ![]() | what this meens is that it doesnt matter how good the rifle is if you dont know what the hell you're doin. you go to the range and had a guy who has never even touched a firearm before an M40 and say hit that bull that's 400 yards away he will not hit that target when the rifle itself can hit that target dead center with ease. YOU the person behind the trigger is the one that shows exactly what that rifle is capable of. that is also what Cyrano meens with the marage of a man and a rifle.

| That would depend on what your definition of "IS" is.. Eh, Mr. Clinton? (Not an actual quote of yours) Twist it all you wish, but I don't remember anyone calling your rifles "Cheap, bulk made, Russian Military crap." (was an actual quote of yours) Again, it's the friendliest gun site on the internet.. Try keeping it that way..

"If you can't say sumthin' good about somebody, don't say nuthin' at all." Quote from Thumper Rabbit in Bambi. Not every thing that costs a lot of money is the best, just as not every thing that is inexpensive (notice I didn't say CHEAP) is a POC. Look at Savage and Stevens. Take a Stevens change the trigger ($100 retail), and the logo and add $300 to the price of the gun. A Ford will carry me the same places a Lincoln will, for less money. |

.280Rem I don't understand why you find it important to let everyone know what you think of, in your words, "cheap russian crap." Lorcin25 wanted to know why they are popular, not your misunderstanding of people liking things you don't. We like military rifles, you don't, is that something you can understand? More importantly, do you have to bash people that like things you don't? You have a pretty sweet shooting Mauser 98, right? You consider it historic, but you rechambered, customized it and sporterized it? Maybe its just me, but that doesn't seem historic at all, like something that you took the parts you saw to be more important than others. You made it how you wanted it and theres nothing wrong with that, but that gun has nothing to do with history. Also, you "hunt deer", right? Well it sounds like your not the only one, and a mosin is a helluva lot cheaper than a 700. Must be a local thing, but where I come from, someone who pays too much for something they could have gotten for a lot cheaper is a fool. I don't want to start a "flame war" because this site is better than that, just asking some questions. |

| It compares.Yep.Yep.It compares. The 7.62x54mm compares too.yes it does compare. They both compare.Yes,they do compare. They both certainly compare. They certainly do compare. There isnt much difference. Remind me never to say bad things about Mosin,s.In fact I will only say good things about them,if I have nerve enough to mention them at all.I have a couple around here someplace.I remember shooting one that had a real long barrel. It went boom, and had enough accuracy for deer hunting. Been a long time.Guess I'll try to find it.Hope it hasnt rusted away. sam.
