7lbs before it is scoped slinged and loaded is fine, you'll end up with a 8.5lb rifle in the end. I'm guessing my .338wm weighs 8.5lbs and i don't mind it at all. The only time I had any contact with my scope after squeezing off a round at the range, was with a scope that had too little eye relief. The scope smacked me on the bridge of the nose so hard I thought it broke my nose. That scope was of course replaced asap ! If you are concerned about the recoil otherwise, you can have it Magna-ported and take the recoil to about a .243 without all that %@^# noise that a muzzle break creates. I fired a .338wm that a friend had Mag-ported, it works very well.

well then, dont use a cheap scope with poor eye relief if your going to shoot a hard kicking rifle.

My 338 is 8 1/4 lbs. with 2.5 x 8 Leupold. Its got a good pad and is perfect. My first .416 was a custom on a Sako and weighted 8 1/2, it was a touch light. I recently sold a Sako .375 with Brown stock and 20" barrel it was 7 3/4 scoped. It was still O.K.
