There are lots of things that would affect "zero" Your figures could be right or not even close. Things like bullet wt, muzzle velocity, and height of scope above bore all affect the so called drop figures.

I do not know his bullet ballistics.

I do know that a M1A should be sighted in at 50 meters (plus or minus 6 inches at the muzzle) and that would give you a dead Center Zero for 50 and 300 meters.

The Ar 15 is at about 36 yards (New A2) and will give you a DEAD center Zero at 36 and 300 yards.

If you now sight the rifle at a greater distance, such as 200 yards for zero, you will be destroying your close range zeros and adding the second zero or the DOWNWARD PATH Zero at about 450 yards.

The Projectile will never ever raise above the plane of the barrel but will raise above the plane of the eye. If you sight in for 50 yards with his cartridge, I would assume (I have no clue of his ballistics) his downward path Zero would be somewhere around 275 yards.

SIGHT in at 50 yards and have a great zero for the near shots and have a great kill zero for up to 275 yards.
