Big Bore Update

As some of you may remember, I posted a thread awhile back concerning a couple of big bore rifles that I was looking at purchasing, well, I finally made up my mind, I ordered a CZ 550 in .458 Lott today, I will have to pick up dies and cases before it arrives, I am planning on shooting 350 Grain Speer flat point bullets, and I expect this rifle to be a lot of fun. I will let you all know how she shoots.

Congrats on your purchase and I wish you well . . .

and I freely admit this is a "Lott" more gun and recoil than I can handle.

Not a total wooss but I am a .243 and 7mm/08 fan.

Good luck and good shooting.

I am just curious why you would select a flat point bullet, unless you plan to load it way,way down.

For smashing through bones on big hogs, I guess I could load some Barnes TSX later on down the line. Not like it's gonna be a long range rig, anyway!

458 Lott

Right on Midas, you'll be very happy with the CZ. I've had a couple, 375 and Rigby. They are excellent guns. They'll hold a mitt full of Lotts. I've used the 350 TSX in my 460 and its very accurate and supriseingly flat shooting at the speed you'll be able to launch it at. Any hog under 300 yds better keep its head down.

The rifle came in today, and I will be loading some ammo for it tonight. The rifle is heavy, but very well balanced, and it feels good in my shoulder. I will take i to work in the morning, and see how it shoots! I wish I my camera was working, because it has beautiful wood.

Ok, I took Big Bertha to the range today, I decided to load some Speer 400 Grain Flat Point bullets, at just a hair over 2500 FPS, using H322 powder. With the Express sights, I was able to keep my shots within a pie plate, at 100 yards, that is more than good enough for hunting. Overall, I am very pleased with the rifle, and it leaves a big ole hole with whatever it hits.
