| Senior Member | Has anyone got or shot a Kel-Tec black rifle? I think that they are designated SU rifles. They shoot 223/5.56 ammo and are supposed to be a sporting model of the standard "black rifle" for less money. Thanks. Dave ![]() |

| Moderator ![]() | "Black rifle" generally applies to the AR-15 - the SU series is NOTHING like an AR-15. A totally different animal. A buddy has one, and we wrung it out pretty well. His was the early model - the sights needed to be upgraded - they may be standard on them now - I hope so. Shooting was good - a very nice trigger, uses AR-15 magazines, the built-in bipod works and is more substantial than it looks. It digested a variety of ammo - commercial and milsurp. Bad thing is, if shot a lot, the POI will wander - the barrel warps a bit with heat. A good plinker, but NOT a rifle I would take when TSHTF. Similar price to the Ruger Mini-14, but better accuracy.

| Senior Member | Yep, I've got one. I love it. The sights have taken some getting used to, but they actually seem to work. I can hit the 100 yard gong with no problem. The plastic mags that come with it can be troublesome (mine have nicks in the lips and won't feed right), but AR mags are easy enough to come by. The best part is that they have a lifetime warranty. If your barrel warps, send it back (only heard of this happening to one guy). I need to send my mags back, just haven't gotten around to it. If you're partial to an AR-style stock, they have that too. You have to call to ask about it, its not listed on the website yet. Personally, I like have mine fold in half but to each his own. One guy has made his into practically an M4gery.KTOG Forum - SU-16A4 Project All in all a great little rifle for not much money. |
