Day at the range, finally!

WooHoo, I finally got to the range after months of trying! It turned into a major fuster cluck, but it was still fun.
I ended up having to pull the battery out of my car and temp. swap it into another shooters' because his batt. was dead and we couldn't find any cables.
When I finally got back to the rifle range, one of the mules had drug my stack of targets and my ammo can off of the table and was happily chewing on the back cardboard flap off of the targets. I just about threw my shoulder out throwing rocks at him, but never even got close-I don't think it's the first time he's dodged a rock!
The wind got up pretty heavy, and my groups suffered accordingly, but it was still a fun time.

Well Sam, our range is rather unpretencious (sp?). The owner lives onsite and has quite a few horses, mules, and donkeys running around the place. It definitely makes for an interesting day at the range.

Glad you finally got to the range Toolman, no matter how it turned out. SOmetimes, you just got to make the best of a situation.

Now as for the horses, mules and donkeys running around. Hasn't any ever gotten accidentally shot? Say by a ricochet or wandering behind a target or something? Or do they only have access to where you guys stand to shoot and not where the target area is? And between you and me, I'd much rather shoot at a place like that then an indoor range any day...

The livestock goes anywhere it wants out there. I've had them walk across the firing line while I was shooting. They've all been raised out there, so gunfire doesn't bother them at all.

And none have been accidentally shot? If that's the case, I am truly amazed. lol And as I said, I'd gladly take the occasional stoppage due to an animal crossing my path ot wandering onto the range area and be able to shoot is such a surrounding then have to go to an indoor range. ANY DAY OF THE YEAR!!! EVEN THE DEAD OF WINTER, NOT THAT WINTERS ARE ALL THAT BAD IN TEXAS. I meant even if in the dead of one of Illinois' winters. lol

What do the people charge to shoot there?

Two weeks ago, while shooting my 25-06 at the 200 yd. range, I look up on the bank 25 yards above the targets and there stands two nice blacktail bucks. Just watching me shoot. The week after that, we had a wild turkey on the public range. She just wondered out like it was no big deal. Then walked up and bedded right in front of the clubhouse. People had to walk around her. She hung around for a couple of days, then moved on.

Hey GM, our prices are pretty reasonable, $6.00\day walk-in, $130\yr, or $500\lifetime. The yearly and lifetime memberships are per family as well.

I still think the mule part is hillarious.Do you think warning them about the chances of getting lead poisoning would deter them from chewing your ammo boxes and targets? sam.
