| Mr. Fixit ![]() | Congrats! The ammo should be fine as long it was stored properly. I've shot German surplus dated 1933 through my Mauser and it shot as well as any commercial ammo I've found.

| Troll B' Gone ![]() ![]() | The ammo should be fine, as long as it is free from corrosion. As far as bullet weights go, 170 grain would be dandy for the purposes you mentioned.

| Congratulations. Clean the firearm and inspect the ammunition. Now that the rifle has been handled and removed from the environment that kept it in the condition it was, it might be a good idea. As far as rounds, 150 or 170gr. is perfect. You can even use/try the new Hornady LeverEvolution ammunition. Remember though, it's a 30-30 so maybe out to 150yds. is max.?

| You might want to find out how old and maybe how valuable the gun is first. It might be an old shooter or an old collectable.

| Senior Member | Have you checked the serial number to see how old it is? Winchester Manufacture Dates Have you look up the value? It could be a collectors item.

| Not sure about the value, Fish, but I bet its a mighty fine rifle. Should be good to shoot. Ive got an M1 Carbine from ww2 and a cz52 pistol made in 1954 and those are 2 of my favorite guns. My third fave? Marlin mod 30 in........30-30. Try the Hornady Leverrevolution flex tips in 160 gr. I also shoot the Remington Core-Lokt's in 170 gr. |

| There's really no point in shooting the old ammo. New .30-30 is very available and still cheap. Just save the old stuff to show your Grandson.
