We were lucky. My family had several guns stolen about 15 years ago. Every one of them was recovered and the sheriffs department got them back to us in a few weeks.

Not a bad idea; To me anyhow. Because ya' just never know and the more sites places out there to list stuff like this, the better the odds to find it get and are...

My family had 11 guns stole about 2 years ago. The police recovered 8 or 9 the next day. We are still waiting on the court system to convict because they were involved in a drug case. You really have to keep on the police to find out any information. The bad is all the feds have to do is see if the guns fire.

hello - I had a pistol stolen from my truck- reported it ! I figured gone forever.6 mo later i'm contacted by police department - stating my weapon had been recovered - from a traffic stop/conceled weapons charge - It took another 6mo. for my gun to be cleared through proper channels - evidence in the case - etc. Upon retrieving my gun from the police station/court house . I was in for some more bad news - they had basically shot out the barrel / with hotloads - never did function properly after that! -Sometimes you can get a stolen gun returned ! Gary

I found the other site where one can post or look for stolen guns or other property.Scroll down under weapons or check or list in the many other stolen item categories. List Your Stolen Property Here!

What if you report your gun stolen and it is recovered? Is it then destroyed? | i think alot of local authorities return stolen or confiscated weapons
the ATF and such, does not however

I would die if someone stole my Guns...The condition of them if they were recovered would be my biggest concern.
Fortunitly most all are replaceable and they are insured but the one's my Dad and Wife bought me have more meaning.
Which is unreplaceable...A.H

Sent my Reciever to Marts Custom Guns, owned by Martin F. Nipple and filed complaint with the Police there in Carthage,Tn. since it was quite a drive sent norarized complaint. He was to fit 2 barrels to my reciever on a NEF Handi rifle we agreed on a price and mailed reciever and $331.00 check which was cashed 2 days later, then he started the runaround game. The police cheif called me 2 times and tried to get me to not file charges by telling me that no one else was,(they had 70 recievers of variuos makes there in the office.Time went by a I contacted th BATF,theysaid they pulled his licence and could do nothing that it was up to the DA,I called the police 2 more times and got some more info from a lady and she even looked for my reciever. The chief got wind and called while I was gone and told my wife for me to quit calling that I was'nt going to get my reciever back and was screaming at my wife on the phone.I filed a internet fraud form out on the web and made a copy of it and sent it to every FBI agency in the area. One week later the chief called and told me I would be contacted when it went to court.Well I'm still waiting and it has been over 5 yrs.,the guy posted bail and ran but found he was arested in ILL. also was told by the lady he had sent recievers to 2 diferent states.I have printed email from him at one point where he said he would return my reciever and money and still have a file on everything I did.Nobody did nothing just let him go(maybe related to someone important there) he had some pull from someone. This was multiple cases and he is probally free now.And I am verry P****d.And get this he even had a section for Law Enforesment, what a f*****g joke.

Police Cheifs generally have to be elected in TN, don't they??
I'd help out anyone who ran against him
Might even run myself just so I could spray the problem around...it's called Buckshot Politics!

Carthage is further than I would care to drive to work, besides I'm disabled.Someone has him in there back pocket for him to pull what he did,and sure would like a list of all the people that were riped off and phone numbers and addresses, but since he was keeping the hush on things probally no way of finding out.

This may be a very dumb question. If you're going to/from the range and your firearm is in your car and you get pulled over for whatever reason (random stop, you were speeding, etc) and the officer says "is that your firearm?" how do you prove it? Can they even ask that? I guess I wonder how you prove you own your firearms.
edit: of course handguns have licenses but for rifles and shotguns, etc., what can you do?
Different note, my dad used to have an antique pistol collection, back when he was living out of his van - 40 years ago. The van was broken into and the collection was stolen. Bummer. That's one of those stories that comes up every once in a while.

i had a question
a buddy of mine met this dude at a bar a while back. the guy has a real nice taurus pt92AF for 200 dollars. it will be his first gun and i told him it was a good deal (i would have gotten it, but he makes a good point), but he explained to me he doesnt know this guy very well and wants to check if its stolen or not. he has the serial number and all that jazz, is there an easy way to check or does he have to call the sheriffs department to make sure?

Thanks for the advice though! | Brownells offers a Personal Fire Arms record log, I have all my guns listed plus pictures of each one. You can get a 3-ring binder book to keep them all together, it should be kept in a safe place. If you have a gun stolen you have all the info you need. It even has a place to list any custom work, scopes, stocks and so forth. worth the money, Al

If you bought the gun from a legit seller, then the serial number should be on the Bill of Sale. All of mine have the model number and serial on the paperwork.

I added a Dan Wesson .357 magnum that was stolen out of my pick-up five years ago to the list.

I had a .243 stolen from me once, back when I lived in an apartment complex in Tulsa, OK. I reported it and everything its never been recovered. I did however finically get even because my auto insurance took care of it. I of course had photos and the S/N to give in the police report. If I recall correctly I may have not reported the correct scope that was on the gun, at the time. This gun had a lot of memories, my uncle and I got three 8mm out of shot gun news and built up two nice shooting rifles. Mine in .243 and my cousins in 30-06. Thats been almost 15 years now. I bet I'll never hear anything about that gun again.

I just contacted a gentleman who's gun was recovered from a burglary 12 years ago , so he could make arrangements to get it back since he had moved from Alaska to Oregon...Anchorage PD recovered the weapon...
Rich | That's a good point. My father had a .357 Ruger Police Service Six stolen from him many years ago. After giving the police the serial number, they assured him that if it was ever recovered by them, or any agency in South Carolina, or many other states, it will be returned. However, if the stolen weapon leaves the state and is recovered by a non-participating law enforcement agency, that agency might just destroy it without notice. .
