I had a Glock 20 10mm stolen out of my gun bag that was in my garage. There was another Glock 21 .45 in the large compartment, but the only thing missing was my 10mm that was in a small pocket. SOMEONE knew right where to look....

Thanks for the post... the first thing that I will do when I get back to my guns is to photograph them and record the serial numbers.

If some of the stories posted happen to me, I may become mentally unstable and have to introduce people to the 240 grains of copper jacketed F**k Off that are waiting for them.... Can you plead insanity in advance?

Thank you for this link. I've bookmarked it, but hope I never have to use it. I'm also sending it along to friends. Good work on such a transparent and easy to use site.

3. Make a phone call to your ex-uncle. Tell him that you KNOW that he has your gun, and that you'd like to get it back, RIGHT NOW. Hopefully, he will comply. If not...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
this is wrong if you know where it is call the police.
If you warn him he can get rid of it and say he never seen it then you will never find where it went. BE SMARTER THAN THE THIEF.
HERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM POLICE FIND GUNS IN RAIDS AND SELL THEM IN ANOTHER CITY OR STATE THEN YOU WILL NEVER SEE THEM AGAIN.

99% of all my purchases are new but I did buy one pistol that was used so I checked the sight to see if it was listed and it was not.
I am pretty sure that this purchase is legit, it was from Ark to Mo and went through a FFL.
Actually two since the seller had to ship from one to mine.

Hope your sight is a great success.

Only partially correct.

The most important thing that any gun owner can do is to record the serial numbers of their guns. Why?

If the firearms are stolen, file a police report. You MUST have the serial number to enter the guns into NCIC/III. When they are entered into this database, they are NEVER removed, except in the case of recovery. And, if they are recovered, they will be returned to the owner--ONLY if the serial number has been listed as stolen.

Im not sure if it is just Kansas or if it is everywhere. After 2 years of no contact from you the weapon CAN be removed from NCIC. Had my mom not worked in 911 Dispatch I would have never known that. But it is your responsibility to keep that case open and keep the local government aware of the missing weapon.

Thanks Aaronc,
08' was a bad year for stolen guns. I lost 4, a Encore 15" Stls 22-250, a 22 Hornet BFR( never fired!!!), a Ruger MII and a cheap little double barrel 410/45. The MII was recovered in DC, but I couldn't contact anyone at DCPD or get a return call( imagine that).Had I not stopped to check the mail, God knows what would have happened. They were running out the back as I was pulling in. The single LEO took 45 minutes to arrive. I guess that's rural SC living nowadays.

I've had 3 stolen

A Ruger M77 MarkII in .243, a Ruger Standard, and a Marlin Model 15YN. Sad part is I think I knew who did it, and the police aren't doing anything about it. They came and took a report that was it, I at the time didn't have the serial numbers written down, but now I have them all saved on disks, one I keep here, and one I identical disk that is kept elsewhere. The disk have both serial numbers and pics of the guns. As the collection grows the new ones get added the day they are brought home. What's interesting about it though as with all the guns in the house those were the only ones stolen, and they are all kept in the same place.

Shrek it crossed my mind. One of the candidates running for Sheriff stopped by this week at the gunshop and we spoke about it. He is very aware of the past 40 years of corruption that has been ongoing here and I really hope he can make the necessary changes.
