Had a rifle stolen from me around thanksgiving of '08. After reporting it to the local sherrif I went on-line to post it somewhere for people to see. I wasn't really satisfied with the options I had so I had a website constructed aimed toward being the " go to " place for someone to post their stolen gun. We are just trying to make people aware that this site is available. It is FREE to submit your stolen guns. This sometimes sparks something of a debate in other forums we have posted in. We do not claim to be a silver bullet solution to get everyones gun back but if it helps 1 person somewhere down the road then we would be very proud of that.
Thank you guys for your time.
Here's a question for those in the know - is a "stolen gun" status ever reversible?
For example, say you report a gun stolen through all the proper channels - is it permanently flagged "stolen", and ultimately not something that can be lawfully owned again? What if you report your gun stolen and it is recovered? Is it then destroyed?

From what I have been told, a reported stolen gun with Serial number reported remains on the List until it is recovered and is supposed to be returned to the owner...But I believe some Agencies may destroy them without notice... Once A gun is recovered it is supposed to be removed from the Hot sheet or classed as "Recovered"...
I just contacted a gentleman who's gun was recovered from a burglary 12 years ago , so he could make arrangements to get it back since he had moved from Alaska to Oregon...Anchorage PD recovered the weapon...

I have a buddy who had his pistol stolen two years ago. It has been recovered and he will get it back but it was used in a murder so it is still evidence. Who knows when he'll get it back.
mooseman is right after the gun is recovered it goes tp the "station"and is logged in as "recovered" and then the owner is notified(sometimes), i had three stolen about 8 years ago two have neverbeen found and one was returned to me 2.5yrs later. the sherifs dept recovered it six month after the crime and never called me untill one day they were cleaning out old evidence and someone found it and called me... so keep checking on whether or not it has been recovered...

aaronc, Sorry to here this. It truly sucks. I checked out your site. I can see having to register to list a stolen firearm, but you should make it so anyone can view the listed firearms. Maybe it is, I don't know. I just know I checked out your site via the link you supplied, and didn't see any link to view listings or anything. Maybe nothing is listed yet or I missed it. Just a thought anyways...
Also sorry it's the reason you joined G&G. I hope you stick around anyways. It's a great site.
And FWIW, there are other sites I know of to list stolen firearms. In fact, here's a couple I found for you. You can post yours, and I would, at these places also... Just do a search stolen firearms or list my stolen firearms. There is one other place but I can't find it nor do I remember it's exact name. If I find it, I'll post the link for you.
I'd list it at as many as I could. But then, you'll have to keep track of all the places so if ever recovered/found, you can go and remove or mark them recovered/found...
If possible, post pictures and as much other info as possible. Not that you won't or didn;t. lol Good luck and I truly hope you get it back.
FWIW, first place I'd look or check, is with people I know or knew I had it wherever it was stolen from. More times then not it can be someone you know or even related to you. Especially someone with a drug problem looking for something REAL EASY to sell so they can score...

Related to me but I was young and dumb and never recorded my serial number hope he is enjoying my Super Blackhawk 357 as much as I used to!! Remember people write down serial#s twice or more and leave copies at relatives you can trust! Learned the hard way!

glockmeister thanks for your reply, and your right this is a great site. I havent had a lot of time to roam around in it yet but no im not gonna leave. i really appreciate you posting the links to the other sites and actually i've been talking to AR15ARMORY today and we now have some links established between us. The reason I started this site is because as big as AR15 is, people dont know to automatically go there to search for a stolen gun, as with any other forum with a stolen gun thread. I wanted the "go to" place to post my information because that was all that the site was intended for exclusively. Your point is well taken and your right, at the moment it could do me some good to post it there as i'm sure I will. There is just so many forums out there with stolen gun threads started it would be hard to post in all of them. As far as having to be registered to search, we have alerts sent by email when a serial match is typed in so that is why we ask for registration for the search as well as submitting a gun. sorry for the inconvenience but its pretty much painless. not a big deal, much like registering to post on a forum. stop back by sometime and check it out. I believe we have submissions from about a dozen states at the moment. If a moderator happens to read this they are welcome to backlink us and we would do the same for you guys on our site, just let us know. thanks again
This thread is why I always recommend that you list the serial numbers of your firearms, and make multiple copies.
To the gent who had his Ruger Blackhawk stolen--yes, there IS a Santa Claus--and since you know where your gun is, I'm about to tell you how to GET IT BACK!!!!
1. Go to the store that you purchased the firearm from. (Hopefully, you DID buy it from a store, right? If not, you'll have to track it through private purchasers until you do find the retail outlet or gunstore.)
2. Explain the situation, and present proper ID. Ask them to see the copy of the 4473 you filled out. You will find the serial number there.
3. Make a phone call to your ex-uncle. Tell him that you KNOW that he has your gun, and that you'd like to get it back, RIGHT NOW. Hopefully, he will comply. If not...
4. Head down to your nearest police station. Provide them with the information, and tell them that you know where the gun is, and who has it. They will probably head to the house, retrieve the gun, and arrest the ex-uncle for Possession of Stolen Property, if not downright Theft of a Firearm.
5. Wait until the court work is done, reclaim your revolver and go shooting.
I bought it from a dear friend who left this life about 1 1/2 tears ago. This all happened over twenty years ago I chalk it up as a lesson learned the hard way and try to tell or teach others exactly that DOCUMENTATION!!! It would be hard to go back now and try to find all the paperwork needed and as Ive gotten older would probably crreate problems in the family that we dont need! Bygones be bygones and learn from your mistakes! It wont happen again this way! Thanks for the advice though!
