There are tons of threads and info in the Mosin Nagant sub-forum...a member here, Jmeck, makes a MN scope mount. Just search the MN forum for "scope mounts". BTW...a MN is a pretty "awesome" deer rifle in original form, with the sites set properly.

| If you're going to replace the stock, try to find a walnut Monte Carlo stock to use instead of the synthetic ATI stock. Numrich has them from time to time and so do others. They generally run about $90, and they are easier for an amateur to tune to their rifle than the plastic fantastics. Plus which, I think they just look better and the wood will help absorb the recoil better than the ATI synthetic stock because there's more mass there.

Is rifle! Is meant point and SHOOT! Is good! Is not meant for fancy.

It seems like an expensive way to a cheap hunting rifle. Wouldn't it just be easier, faster and cheaper to start with a Marlin XS7/XL7 or Mossberg ATR?

I don't see why you can't. If you reload you prolly can develope a nice load and if you can put a scope on a your Mosin that would be a plus. Go for it...A.H

I agree with that and I wasn't trying to be rude. I have enough inexpensive things turned expensive to know how that goes! I myself thought of doing something similar until I discovered the two mentioned rifles were available at such low cost. I didn't know if he knew about those options. |

Sorry if I came across harshly. It's just so fustrating to hear people going down a road they may not want to travel. Besides, I'm the proud owner of 2 custom guns and 2 marlins bolt actions, and the marlins out shoot the more expensive custom gun, and the other custom gun has trouble keeping up with the marlins. |

i have to agree with buying a dedicated deer rifle. the 54R doesnt come with many options for store bought. you have FMJ and SP. while the SP is usable if you want one of the fancy partitions or triple shocks or polymer whosy whatsits then you would have to reload your own. take your $100 mosin. add a $100 stock and you have a $200 rifle with somewhat hard to find ammo. take a Marlin XL-7 or XS7 (30-06 and .308 respectivly) for $300, add a scope and you are in business. the 06 and 308 are easy to find ANYWHERE and come with a retarded large bullet selection. plus you get the advantage of a NEW rifle with NEW barrel. out of the box accuracy wont be a question on that one. if you want to trick out the old war horse then by all means. but it seems to me that by the time you modernize the mosin you could just buy a modern gun. your gun, your call

They make fine deer rifles with few mods. I've take 5 deer with my laminated M-44 and a cheap B-Square mount\Tasco 2x20 scope combo. The closest was just under 175 yds and the longest was around 220. The funny thing is, I normally shoot a flat-shooting .270 Win. and I usually end up shooting at less than 100 yds.
