The Compensators do work ... My old Glock 31 there was a noticeable difference on muzzle rise from the stock barrel to the compensated one. Clever idea on your part!
There are various types of Lock-Tite, on the market. Perhaps one of the "soft" ones will give you the hold you need, without melting and letting it back off.
If not, then the Teflon tape sounds like the best "fix" as long as you don't try to put TOO many rounds through before re-taping it.
