DEA agent accidently fires Glock 40---how?

I know nothing about Glocks.

A friend of mine sent me a clip of a DEA agent giving a safety lecture and accidently discharging his Glock 40. Fortunately no one was injured, and there were a lot of children present.

My question is, how did it happen? Thought some of you Glock guys could see the mistake. I thought he shut the slide, then pulled the trigger to prove it was empty. Then, BAM!!

I'll be honest: I didn't download the clip because I have a slow internet connection. However, the agent must have either had a round in the chamber he didn't know about or a round in an inserted magazine. Remember the rule about treating every firearm like it's loaded? Well he didn't. There is one other longshot possibility: the extracted a round but it didn't eject for whatever reason and was caught on the extractor and carried back into the chamber when the slide was closed. Simple visual inspection of the open action should have revealed the live round in all 3 cases.

I feel that Glocks are pretty good weapons and fairly safe but they are not idiot proof. One of the first things Glock owners find out is that stripping the action for cleaning requires pulling the trigger to put the action in the fired position. It is in everyone's best interest if the chamber is empty when this is done. If you've never shot a Glock, it is built so that a second squeeze of the trigger does nothing if the first squeeze activated and tripped the firing pin. My CZ83 will recock the external hammer and allow it to hit the firing pin as many times as you care to pull the trigger. If the Glock suffered a misfire, the shooter has to cycle the slide manually and chamber a fresh round to fire. The other point to consider is that unlike some autos a Glock will fire with a round in the chamber and no magazine.

I will leave it to others to comment on the relative safety of Glocks & other pistols. Good (and also safe) shooting. Fred.

I seen the video a couple of weeks ago. What he does it show his Glock to the people, locks the slide back and tells everyone 'see, it is empty'....he goes and shows one of the people that he is doing the presenation with, for them to verify it is empty....

then he keeps talking....one thing is wrong though....the chamber was definitely empty, the slide was locked back, but the dumbass didn't take the magazine out....loaded magazine still in the gun....what a dumbass....i'm sure his career was done after that, just watching him speak he didn't know crap and shouldn't even own a gun....

I finally saw the video on TV: I wouldn't trust this clown with a squirt gun. He was paying ZERO attention to what he was doing, shot himself in the foot, and tried to pretend it didn't happen. If I ever see him at the range, I'll just up and leave.

I don't care about man power shortages. you don't send deep UC officers around people. Look at how dirty and unprofessional that chode looked. ROFL @ pretending it didn't happen. hahahahaha
