Glock 21? 45 ACP

All,
I am looking at the Glock 21 (I think that is the correct model)
Full size 45 ACP.
I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with it.
I don't know anyone with it nor can I find a range where I can
rent one to try it out.

The Glock 21 is the .45ACP, you're correct. I know a fellow officer who carries one. I can't say enough for it. It is accurate and easy to handle. the grip is wider than the rest of the Glocks, but not too wide. Recoil is minimal. The price is usually about $20 higher than other Glocks. You won't go wrong with the 21.

Mild shooting, accurate & typical Glock reliability. What more could you ask for? :cheer:

Great shooter, and I believe the only Glock that's been OK'd for use with cast bullets. The rifling on the 21 is different than on the other calibers to be compatible with plain lead bullets.

I certainly enjoy mine. Great shooter and very accurate. 45ACP forever. :p

It's big!! To big for me!! I prefer the G36!!

Cyclops 07-27-2002 12:36 PM

denfoote - I've been debating between the 30 & 36. Why did you go w/ the 36? was is strictly it's size that one you over?

After I left Glock armoror's school, I was convinced of two things: the Glock 20, 21, 29, and 30 were the most powerful packages offered by Glock, (and an incredible bargain), and I would NEVER shoot lead through a Glock barrel. The twist may be different on the 21 and 30, but the barrels are the same... and WILL KB if you use lead.

Jesse, why do you reckon shouldn't one put lead through a Glock barrel?

jjbath 09-04-2002 12:15 PM

What do you mean by KB?

colt45 09-04-2002 04:46 PM

I have two of them. (only ones I have more than one of in my collection other than the 1911's) I love them.

I have a 21 and a 23. They are the most accurate "out of the box" pistols I own. The 21 is my choice between the two. The 23 and the 40SW has a stinging recoil. I recently put a rubber sleeve on the grip and it's a lot better.(I'd rather shoot my 35Rem Contender.)
The rifling in Glock barrels are cut different that normal rifling. If you think of a series of triangles upright and inverted around the inside of a cylinder is the best way to describe it. Lead is a definitely not an option. You can buy an aftermarket barrel in order to use lead projectiles, but I am not sure of the change in accuracy.
I would like to own a model 30 or 36 next. They seem to be the preferred carry gun. My hands are big enough the 30 most likely would be my choice. We speak of the best pistols of the 20th century and the Glock family of weapons must be included.

Indy,
My first glock 21 has shot >1" groups for the last two years with a 200gr lead SWC with 3.7gr of bulls eye. I only clean the BBL at the end of the competion season and have had no problems with it at all. Hay it shoots better than I do, with this load. Off the bag it shoots a 98 out 0f 100pts every time, off hand I'm able to get consistantly high 80's but I'm working on it, just had a new triger spring installed verry smmooooooooth now.
As far as leading up its not any more than I found in my 357 when I use 38 WC's Maybe your loads where of a softer lead.

Ditto for lead.... If you wish to shoot lead, get a standard rifled aftermarket barrel like a Bar-Sto.

jjbath 07-31-2004 11:08 PM

I kind of assumed that was a KB but what does KB stand for?

Logansdad 07-31-2004 11:15 PM

Ka Boom ! :jet:

Logansdad 07-31-2004 11:27 PM

I wouldn't mind having a Glock 21 myself...might have to get one when the AWB sunsets :target:

Thanks for the replies. I asked this question almost 2 years ago I can't believe that someone finally responded :)

By the way I have owned the Glock for about 2 years now and it is one of my favorites. I just wish the ammo was as cheap as 9mm.

Logansdad 08-01-2004 03:44 AM

sorry it took so long..btw you're welcome :right:
