My experience is as short as 5 years and my G23 is a 2000 model, but from my short experience I can tell you that I have tried to make it malfunction many times by all means, this includes: Shooting sideways (right side up and left side up), upside down, even the macho grip seen in the movies, every angle I can achive, jerking hand, flimsy hand, flimsy wrist. This is done once about every two months (aprox.) just to test reliability because if this gun is going to malfunction, I better find out at the range than at a situation.
I'm not saying that I don't trust this gun, I'll do it with any gun, any brand that I'll have my life depending on it.
I'm not into shooting using any of this strange ways, my preference is the isosceles stance with the left foot slightly foward using a two hand grip with the gun right in front of my eyes arms extended and practice one handed with each hand just in case I have one hand disabled.
With one hand my groups are bigger but I can still get the shots in the target.
With this I mean that I don't know if they improoved the guns or if it is the same reliability since the first glock left the factory but I can speak from my short experiece with my gun, who knows, maybe I have a jewel but my buddies at the range, all have similar experiences.
My advice to you out there is that if you haven't tried one of these beauties lately, go out find one and try it for at least a 100 rnds and then if you are not completely satisfied then you can allways go back to your old trusty gun, who knows you may actually like that piece of flimsy plastic and throw away in your safe the anvil that you're carrying right now.
At the end of the day you must carry whatever you feel safe with.
By the way, I'm not into law enforcement I'm an enginneer that works in the streets with all kind of people (some good and some bad) and likes to feel protected because the criminal wave in this Island is growing up because of drug related crimes and no one is safe depending on the government.

Mandy,

You got a point about trying one....perhaps I have been a little hard headed.......I sure can be that way from time to time, :-)

My wife's cousin has a Glock 22 .40 he swears by and when he comes down again later this month I'll have him bring it along and give it a try.

Who knows....I just might fall in love with it, lol.

You know, you bring up another good point I harp on and that's what makes you feel confident. You can have the most reliable gun in the world but if you lack the confidence in it it's going to be a liability. You obviously have confidence in your 23 and that's great.

Stay safe.....keep in touch, OK?

God speed!

That's the attitude.
Make sure you post your new impressions of that G22.
I'm not saying that the glock is the last gun you'll ever own but certainly should be one of the many you own.
Good shooting and remember to use only factory ammo on all your guns. I'm not into reloading and I don't critize anyone who does reload but you better know what you are doing.
Oops today is thursday, I have to run for the range and shoot my Glock talk to you later like after 3 boxes of factory ammo.

Wow last thursday was awsome, I got to shoot my SS P220, my G23, some new guy's colt defender, my friend's nickel plated dessert eagle .50 and a racing 10/22, all this in 3 hrs.
I liked the defender because it aimed good and I started hitting the x after the third round (after getting the trigger feel).
Probably the added weight helped a lot and the quality of the materials & craftmanship where similar to the Sig.
I say it's a good choice for personal defence but I'm not willing to have that extra weight especially when here you have to carry concealed (usually it means IWB or fanny pack) and I don't use a jacket.
So I'll stick with my Glock until something better & ligther comes along.
Remember, if you don't practice with your gun until it becomes second nature, you may as well sell it beause it'll not be of any good if the moment comes.
It's not the bow or the arrow, it's the indian what counts.

It's listed as a "compact", but I find nothing compact about it!! I had one and found that the grips were to fat. I sold it and went with the G36!!!

Dale: Three Glocks lottsa rounds and no KABOOMS!!! Although, I have fallen for a certain BHP that has come my way!!!

Dale,

I know I'm late, here, but thought I'd post, anyway. I'm glad you're going to take a more objective look at the Glocks. My G23 has over 68k rounds through it, without a problem. Most handguns have a service life far lower than this, and the 23 shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. Good luck with the experience, and be sure to let everyone know how it turns out...

Logansdad. I like the .357 sig just fine, but it penetrates considerably deeper than a .40SW. LEO's in TX who work in rural areas ie:HWY Patrol, and several deputy sheriff's are carrying it. They can usually afford a through and through wound. Not many city cops are carrying it though. We need that round to stop inside the offender. 40sw seems to be the choice in that case.

Thumbs up

Mandy:

Amen. Another Free Citizen from P.R. here. My recommendation is a G22 or G23. If anyone wants to have valauble information about Glocks an .40 caliber should buy Autopistols 2003 edition. Several articles should clarify any doubts about Glocks .40.
IMO there is a lot of misinformation about KB's. KB's can occur on any pistol and mostly are reload issues related.

I own the G-23 in 40 S & W and have shot a friends G-35 on several occasions. If your looking for a full size 40 the G-35 is nice. The sights are better (target grade and adjustable) in my opinion than on the 22 or 23 (fixed combat sights), and it has a longer sight radius. The grip is the same as the 22 and uses the same magazines. You might have to search to find a good concealment holster. the 2002 Gun Buyer's Annual had a good article on the G-35 a one gun option for competition, home defense, and CCW.

I'd take a Glock over a 1911A1 anyday of any week...the 1911A1 is an overrated obsolete swinging link dinosaur piece of sh*t
