| I had a .17 HMR bolt action look similar to that, but I bet we both have some bolt actions in the safe... I dropped the hammer, then the rifle. It blew the floor plate off (stripping both SS screws), blew the mag out, split the laminated stock in four places, broke the extractor, plugged the barrel, powder burned my arm and face (had to dig a piece of powder out of my eyelid, and a bunch out of my arm). Footnote: I still shoot that rifle... obviously after much repair work. |

| I didn't know Glock people were so testy about their guns. I suppose that carrying a gun that blows up on occasion is stressful ;UNQUOTE i dont know a thing about em but that was funny! that could be a cause of trigger flinch.... ya think?

| No. I sense hand-loaded ammo that exploded.

| as much as i hate plastic guns, i have to say that if there was handloading going on in this equation than that a mistake in the ammo was almost certanly the couse.

| I've never seen a 1911 break apart like that, but I've seen one that the barrel split open and caused the frame to warp. It was a total loss. Reloaded ammo.

...and being a student on a major university campus, that means a lot, what with all the recent shootings. Plus, my university had a shooting two weeks before Virginia Tech and everyone forgot about it when VAT happened.... Shootings at my school aren't something new, it's something I think about every day in class.

Look up the murder-suicide of Rebecca Griego. She had a restraining order out on the guy that killed her and had passed out pictures of him to her coworkers and the UWPD was aware of the restraining order. She even took time off of work for a while to make sure he didn't find her there after the order was issued. She did everything in her power to protect herself... except carry a gun (or other defensive device such as a taser, but he killed her with a gun)... and now she's dead.

| If she'd of only had and carried a Glock, she'd probably be alive today.

| Everything I've ever read about the Glock is that if you're going to hand load or use lead bullets get yourself a custom barrel. To someone who shoots a Government model, and I have several and love them, that seems odd. But really it’s no different than going to your gun shop and getting your brand new Government 45 and sending it to the gunsmith for a reliability/accuracy job. I’ve got several Glocks and all wear aftermarket barrels and I shoot all kinds of ammo in them and have never had a problem. Maybe my sample size is too small or I’m really lucky. All I can say is that I have never had any gun blow up on me in 40 years of shooting and reloading. I’d be curious how many people have actually had a gun blow up on them. |
