Hi everyone im new to this site and have found tons of useful info. I need help picking out my first handgun i have a couple in mind but just cant make my mind up. i will be using it for target, self defense, ccw. the firearms i am interested in are Beretta 92/96 (.40cal), glock (.40 or .45), H&K usp .45, taraus pt 1911. I want a reliable easy to field strip without the use of tools, at least .40 cal or .45. i really like the way beretta feels in my hand its comfortable and just feels right... but ive heard they break after a couple of thousand rounds this concerns me (i shoot alot) is this true??? any suggestions or comments please help.... Welcome to G&G simpleman!! Glad to have you aboard! Honestly can not attest to to any of your choices with the exception of the Taurus 1911. It has been good for me. It is a great carry firearm as far as reliability and effectiveness. But not the most concealable. Check out the CCW and carry forums on the site here and get multiple opinions.The bottom line is ...it is what feels comfortable to you and what you are comfortable with. Welcome to the site. I've been looking hard at SPRINGFIELD ARMORY's XD40 and XD45. I own one pistol, Springfield A. 1911A1. The XD line incorporates the grip safety, loaded chamber indicater, "cocked" indicater, and similar trigger safety as the GLOCK. I liken it to a GLOCK on roids. And they are the poly/steel design like the GLOCK. The best part is they only run about $500.00. You might want to check them out side by side by the GLOCK. And welcome.
The only Glock I can speak of, and I'd give it high praise, is the Glock Model 35 tactical/practical. It is long in the slide, but I'd carry it or a .45 any day for CCW. The reason I don't, is because mainly good ole Illinois, along with Wisconsin are the only two miserable states that yet DO NOT allow or have a CCW law. Just something about the .45. ( 9mm, not enough knock down power). Sure, hit them in the right place with a 9mm, they'll go down. But then the same can be said for a .22 and I won't or wouldn't carry a .22 for CCW for any reason.
Have you been to a range to check a few you're wanting out? Handled them and shot them? There are some ranges that let you rent firearms so I suggest you do that to see what you like. You may find one or 2 on your list, after handling and shooting a few, you may not feel the same way about them?

Yes ive been looking for awile now there is a range close by to rent firearms and i plan on going as soon as i get some extra cash they're kinda pricey but good knowledgable people. Im sure i want something larger than 9mm i like beretta 96, glock 21, 1911's, hk usp .45 i do plan on shooting each of these to see which one will handle better and feel good to me.. thanks to everyone for the suggestions and advice yall have helped alot

If you mean pricey as far as renting to try out, not much you can do. But if you mean pricey as far as for the gun/s your wanting/looking at, find someone else to get it from. Buy it off the internet and have it sent to an FFL that will do the transfer for you at a reasonable price. If you look on gunbroker.com, they have an FFL search you can utilize and type in your area code and find one within 20-25 miles if need be. Not sure what exactly you meant was pricey though?
Again, I think a .40 cal is a great place to start. .45 is also, except ammo is a tad bit pricier than .40 in most cases. Something else to consider before you buy, is how much ammo will cost you in the caliber. That's the thing about 9mm. Very reasonable. And if you get the right handgun and it can handle and shoot the hotter 9mm rounds, then all the better. if your not firm on a semi-auto, you could look at a revolver in .357. Then you could also shoot .38 and .38+P... Good luck and keep us informed and ask any other questions you may have. Someone will always have an answer for you.

Ok. yeah by pricey i mean they really like their indoor range alot $15 an hour plus you have to buy their targets of course rent their guns and pay for ammo which isnt too bad if your looking at one particular firearm but when you have many pistols too look at its gonna cost me.. but id rather pay and shoot them so ill know what im getting and ill be satisfied with my purchase
Any of the ones you stated will do the job so its a matter of which one fits you the best. I had the Beretta 40 in double action only and it had a nice smooth trigger(hard to find on dao guns) felt lighter than some single actions. Had to sell it when my work left town or I would still have it. Some of the ones on your list might be a little large for carry. If I could hide it I would carry my Smith 645 its 45 cal and holds 8 with a decocker I am sure they make a newer model you would like maybe a Smith M&P,well there are many to choose from and thats half the fun so enjoy.
