I went with the 19 because I shoot a lot and with the price of .40 these days I wouldn't be able to shoot as much as with the 9mm. No matter what Glock you get you can't go wrong.

fireguy86,
I have 2 matching Colt SAAs. Both blue, both 5 1/2 " barrel, both with custom wooden grips with a big white star on each side and of course both .45 Colt.

It's the Obvious choice to me for the simple reason that you can shoot 9mm in your glock 23 with a few simple changes. Now if you aren't one to fiddle with changing barrels and extrators (very very easy to do) then just choose the caliber you want. The ultimate question is what would you feel more comfortabe with should you need to use it. Like another member said there is nothing wrong with the 9mm so long as you use proper self defense rounds in it. If you do get the 9mm practice double taps, it's easy to do with the 9mm, a lot of fun, and will put someone down fast.
Shoot both and choose what you are more comfy with. If you cant hit anything with the .40 but can with the 9mm then that should be your answer.

The glock 23 was my first Auto pistol I ever bought and that was back in 93. I really enjoy it and even carried it concealed several years until I bought my Kimber Ultra CDP. I have put thousands of rounds through the glock and it never had a single problem until I bought a .357 sig barrel for it. I broke the guide rod with the first box of .357 sig ammo. Quick fix with a steel guide rod and stiffer spring now I shoot both calibers with no problems.

Glock 23 one of the best in 40sw platform, together with the G22.

The glock is a good weapon, nothing special. It is a matter of individual preference. I am required to use a glock, and have used one for many years and don't care for it. I am, however, trained on many different weapons platforms and can use any of them. The only thing glock is better at than other suppliers is in the area of marketing, not to mention the fact they sell at a lower price to government agencies. Those with a budget like this, ALOT! But do not get carried away by the glock 'worshipers' they are are no better than MANY other handguns. Try as many as you can and buy the one YOU like best!!!

| Glock 23
I have the Glock 23 which I carry with hollow points. I have the Ruger P345 ( to big to concel and heaver than the Glock) for home defense loaded with Hydra Shok rounds. Love both can't go wrong with either. The new Ruger LCP 380 makes a great backup and very easy to concel. Kel Tech makes a nice 380 also and is a little cheaper in price than the Ruger.

Love my Glock 23. Like my American Express Card, I don't leave home without it. It's comfortable in my hand, easily concealable, and services a .40 cal round that I have complete faith in (hydroshock hollowpoint). It does take lots of range time master the recoil and maintain proficiency, but I am completely comfortable with the it and am totally "locked in" with this weapon.

I've had a G17 as a service gun for some years. Shot some 15.000 rounds from it, and I can't really say I loved the gun. But the ammo was for free, so I put my .45 aside for a while. I will get another handgun this winter. It will be a single stack, single action 1911 .45 for sure. Not a Glock.

The Glock 23 is the best semi-auto "Work Horse" pistol money can buy today !!!
There's a lot of nice semi-auto's to be had that are prettier, but none can beat the Glock 23 in durability, accuratcy and ease in cleaning ...A.H

Your thoughts please! | I don't think there is very much, or any price between calibers. For what it's worth, my department used Glock 23s before I retired. One of my many duties was that of resource and firearms instructor at our academy. The Glock 23 was a range instructor's dream come true. It is an easy weapon to teach and to master. Personally, I would opt for the .40 because of its greater stopping power and .40 ammo is about the same price as 9mm. Admittedly, I kind of wish it had a grip safety like the Springfield XD pistols, but I wouldn't let that one feature alone determine whether or not I purchased one. |

| I guess I should have read some of these responses before assuming that .40 ammo could be had as cheap as 9mm; especially since I used to shoot a lot of both calibers only due to the sacrifices of the taxpayer (I'll always remember who paid for my never ending practice at the academy). If 9mm is significantly cheaper; then that’s the way to go. There are excellent defense loads in both calibers. |

Go with the 23 and if you want less muzzle rise opt for the 23C. I have one and shoot it all the time.

Lone Wolf Distr has the conversion barrels. Works really well in my G22.
i only use the conversion for range time. The rest of the time the standard .40 barrel stays in it. $99 is cheap for a good match grade conversion barrel. It's a drop in with no smithing required.

I would recommend going to a shooting range and testing it out. In Kali the rounds in 9mm and .40 S&W are about the same price. I have the G23 and am very happy with it. When i tested the 9mm version I really didn't notice a difference in the recoil. In Kali both version in compact go for the same price. I purchased a conversion kit from AdvantageArms.com which converts to .22lr which is $16 for 550rds. It works great even better when Im low on cash and just want to get to the range or go plinking.

I just got my 23C and i love it - it's a great gun. The compensated barrel absorbs quite a bit of the recoil. If you find reoil a problem then pick up the Recoil Buffer from BufferTech.com this item works two fold: it keeps t absorbs the recoil and stabilizes the muzzle. It's an inexpensive item for any Glock it costs $9.95, they sell them for 1911's and the Sig226/220.

from what i'd been told, a 9mm +p+ has the speed of a .357 sig. not only is it cheaper than the .40, it'll hold more rounds. the 19/23/38 frame is fantastic. i think it's the best compact out there.
