You can always swap out the barrel and convert it to a 9mm or .357 anyway...

Where I live, we have a lot of shootings, both law enforcement related and private matters.
I have yet to witness a single incident where the .40 caliber stopped anybody, even after they soaked up multiple rounds.
On the other hand, I know of multiple incidents where somebody got shot one time with a 9mm and the fight ended.
The .40 caliber is ballistic masturbation fantasy.
the reality is it was designed to be a compromise.
And that's what it is.
You get less stopping power than a .45 and you get less firepower than a 9mm...
You get less stopping power too.
Ballistics charts look impressive on paper, but on the streets only results matter. You'd be better off with a .45 or 10mm or a 9mm all of which the Glock people will sell you.

I have had both the G23 and the G19. Same mid size frame on each and just a little large to conceal carry every day for may tastes. Love how both of them shoot. Not sure if I would go the .40 route on a sub compact though. Recoil might not be that great.
Anyway, the 23 is a sweet lead slinger. I am pretty sure the State Police here in Oregon carried it at least for a while if not still.
Someone else suggested aftermarket sights as well. I totally agree. put some nice low night sights on that baby soon as you get it.

| One of the BEST gun i own
I have a Glock 23. One of the best hand guns i own. Accurat, compact enough to carry, and the ammo is easy to find and not that expencive. Like all Glocks, it is VERY easy to clean and keep up. You can't go wrong with this gun.

Your thoughts please! | I would really suggest getting the 9mm instead. I shot a 40 and it really isn't that good. You can't really see the target and with it being a smaller pistol it really doesn't cut back on some of the recoil.

Some folks don't like the G23 because it does not have a thumb safety. It scared me too so I had an after market external safety installed. It works great and you ain't scared to tuck it into your waist belt.

i have a g23 and love it. it does, as all higher caliber pistols do, have some recoil... i have been researching some sites and have found that you can send your slide and barrel to a place to have them port the front, kinda like the g23c, their site is Mag-na-port International--Home Page . not too expensive, they also do shotguns and rifles... i was tryin to find someone that has had it done before to get some info on it...

I also have a Glock 23 and love this gun. I own many handguns - Brownings, Colts, Kimbers, Springfields, Dan Wessons, Ed Brown Kobra Carry, etc.. and even though it cost less than 90% of my handguns, it really is my favorite all around gun. Shoots great out of the box, reliable, reliable, reliable, great sites (for me), low bore-axis (natural pointer) and easy to fieldstrip and the finish is very durable. The Glock 23 is my carry piece and after a couple of years holstering the gun, there is no wear at all.
Not as pretty as my hi-powers and 1911's, but definitely the gun I would trust my life with out of all mentioned. It's a no frills, practical, and unbelievably durable weapon.

Buy the G23 and then buy the 9mm aftermarket barrel. That way you can practice with the cheaper ammo. It will be like having two guns in one.

I bought a G23 with OD frame/ black slide. Never had a problem. Accurate, reliable, powerful and good ergonomics. It seems Glocks are a love or hate gun. I thought/ think highly of every glock I've had.

Shoot a couple of clips thru someones ported 45 before deciding. Also, don't exclusively wear double ear protection when testing. Ditch the muffs, or the plugs, (not both ha) and shoot a few.
Another thing, which may not apply, is, if you are using the pistol for home protection, bear in mind that firing a ported gun in a hallway is a real thrill. It can ring your bell and keep ringing it.
The reason I am writing you, is that I have shot both quite a lot. A ported gun in the open with good ear protection and a breeze at your back isn't particularly unpleasant. Inside with less protection (or none) they can be a real noisy treat.

The G23 is a .40 not a .45 just FYI

Both are good guns.. Pick the 23 40cal over the 19 9mm. If you buy the 40cal you can buy a 9mm barrell and put on it for around $100. You cant switch the 9mm to a 40cal though.. i have the 23 and a extra 9mm barrell to switch out if i want to target practice with cheaper 9mm ammo.. hope this helps. Mike S.

where did you order the Glock from? a dealer near you? I thought they were even having a hard time getting a gun in for sale.

I had a G23 and loved it. I did, however, end up getting rid of it, and for one reason only. I came home from a range session one time and found a spent casing in the hood of the sweatshirt I had worn to the range. Just above the rim of that case, was a significant bulge. I cleaned the weapon very well and test fired it again at a later date. Tried a few different brands of ammo and all of them had bulges in the case. All ammo was factory new ammo, so rather than chance having a serious malfunction, I traded it off.
