.357Sig is a .40S&W case with a 9mm bullet, so you can change the barrel and use the same magazine. To use 9x19mm, you need to change the barrel and the magazine. Because the bore is smaller for both the .357Sig and the 9mm, it actually has more metal around it and is stronger than the original, whereas if you used a 9mm and tried to go up in size, it would have less metal and potentially be dangerous.

I have owned the 23 for almost 3 years. great gun. I liked the 23 because of the extra power and the fact I can drop in a .357 sig barrel and have two guns in one. I also own a XD in 9mm, it is not near as accurate (for me) as the Glock. |

Beretta 92F (Loved IT ), A FRIENDS S&W COMPACT ported .45. And I liked them ALL. but we went with the g19, for a new shooter she felt the most confident with the G19... Rack , point, BANG!!! As of last week I got the G23 .40 finally and a Lone Wolf Dist. conversion barrel... I was having th same problem as you, no one had any in stock. and the dealer I frequent had me on a list for two months... So after calling all the local and not so local big stores with no luck. I then got on Google and searched "gun and (my city)"and found four shops I didn't even know about, after calling about 8 or 10 dealers I found 2 that had them in stock and one who was still willing to wheel and deal if I bought some other stuff to! Moral of the story...they're out there, just fewer and farther in between!!! as for stopping power!!! get a 12ga. if you want convenience and conceal ability anything in a 9mm or bigger "can" stop a thug.... As I was taught at Front Sight, It's not what you use, it's HOW well you use it With glocks you love 'em or hate 'em I'm a lover , not a hater![]() Good luck and if you can TRY'EM ALL and get what feels best to YOU!!!

SO- I started this little discussion awhile ago! Since then, I have bought two more Glock 23's, one for my new wife, and one for my daughter. I have also purchased two Glock 22's and a Taurus Ultra-Lite .38 Special 5 round revolver for the lady to carry ccw. Love them all!

| Question
I've had a Glock 23 now for about 4 months. In that time, I've probably fired it around 500 times using standard Winchester ammo. The problem I've experienced is that between 5 and 7 times now the shell casing has failed to completely eject after the round has been discharged thereby jamming the weapon. When this occurs, the next round, fortunately, does not enter the chamber. Obviously to clear the weapon, the clip must be removed and the bolt must be manually retrieved in order to eject the spent brass. My question is..."Is this considered typical for this weapon - jamming approximately every 75/100 rounds?" |

Even though the 19 is cheaper you will be limited with your options. With the 23 you have more options plus having the velocity close to the 9mm but having the stopping power close to the 45 it is a happy medium and you get more for your money. I have a 23 and it has never let me down. I have no doubt with the function of it or do I worry that it not be enough when it is needed.

| Senior Member | If your goal is to shoot cheaply go with the 9MM. Also look into a Taurus if you want cheap. Better gun and much less money. If you are willing to spend the money for a Glock look into Springfield XD. Twice the gun Glock will ever be.

| Glock 23
I own multiple Glock weapons including two 23s. Since I instruct CCW at the local range, I was interested in ballistics of various handguns for concealed carry and self defense. While the .40cal has a bit heavier grain bullet than the 9mm, the ballistics are nearly the same. And, as many have pointed out, the 9mm is much cheaper to shoot. So, what I have done is park the .40cal barrel (that comes with the 23) on a shelf. When I practice, I use the 9mm barrel that Storm Lake (and others) make for the G23 and when I carry, I use the .357 Sig barrel. The .357 Sig has better ballistics than the .45 ACP (again with a smaller grain bullet).

I just traded my gen 3 g35 for a gen 2.5 g23 and I am very pleased with it. My only complaint is that the frame has the half circle cutout at the bottom which feels weird to grip over. The previous owner had a set of Pearce floorplates that filled in that hole but the first time I reloaded with one of those it caught my pinky and pinched the skin. IMO the compacts are the perfect civilian gun. Small enough to conceal and carry without fatigue and large enough to fire accurately and hold an adequate number of rounds.

This gun is one of the best guns I've bought in terms of ergonmics and durability. I have both Glock 23/27 and I couldn't chose between the two. I prefer the 27 for concealed carry because it is smaller and slightly lighter. For that one, I have an ankle holster that works nicely! I switched from a Beretta 96 .40cal to a Sig P229 .40 to the Glock 27. The others were great guns, but the Glock just fits my hand like a glove! Good luck in whatever choice you choose!

The G23 and the G19 are the same size. With either 13 or 15 round default mags respectively, Both will accept the next size up magazines. Personally I dont have anything against 15+1 rounds of 124 grain JHP or 115grain+p Corbon DPX 9mm so I carry a G19. Right now .40 cal is actually easier to find than 9mm, at least where I am but ammo is coming back in stock. Its basically a grand 9mm vs .40 caliber debate... pick your poison and go from there.

I must tell you how much I appreciate the humor, good will and attitude of this area. There is another GLOCK discussion group and they are not friendly at all. Indeed, they stiffle any discussion with stupid put downs toward the posters. I did not join them. I own one of eveything GLCOK makes EXCEPT a .22 conversin and a 10mm and MAY get a 10MM soon if I can get some advice here. Again, thanks for a great group. You need to police it and keep it that way. |

I just bought a 23 40cal. Love it, I got the OD (olive drab) (green) I was looking at the 23c, but the sporting good store I was buying it from said you dont want that, the C. It shoots out the flame on top and at night if someone breaking in, you will blind yourself. So I stuck to the 23 its compact and to hold its a good grip. So far I have put 100 rounds through it and I am very Happy. If your looking for a holster, Blackhawk cqc makes a good one. I have a C&C permit. No straps needed. I spent 565.oo for it an I am a very satisfied. Now I have to convince the wife that I would also like a 19, just because. When i broke the 23 down to show her, she couldnt believe some of it was plastic, her words why so much for a plastic gun, My words were its a GLOCK>>> say no more. You will be happy. GOOD LUCK. | good idea
with the Glock 23, you can buy an alternate barrel to convert your gun to shoot 9mm. it's about a $120 investment at the low end so it might only be worth it if you're going to be doing a lot of shooting but it's worth considering.

Hi Folks, I am interested in the Glock 23; however, I am confused as to whether there is a 9mm version of it. Do you have to buy the .40 version and then convert it to a 9mm by buying the barrel and mags mentioned in this thread?? Thanks, RickM46 |
