Thanks,
RickM46 | The Glock 23 is the "Compact" model of their .40 caliber line.
The "Compact" model of their 9x19mm line is the Glock 19.
You can buy the Glock 23 and buy a 9x19mm barrel and use 9x19mm magazines to shoot cheaper, but you can't do the opposite with a Glock 19. So, if you want to shoot both out of the same gun, get the 23 and buy a conversion barrel and some 9mm mags.

Eventually I sold it after I was no longer physically able to go on hunting trips.
Tomorrow I pick up my new Glock 23 Gen4 and of course, it will be in S&W .40 because if it will stop a big angry bear it will do just fine for whatever else I want to do with it.

Otherwise I don't thing you would be disappointed with either. 9mm is (a little) more available and cheaper than .40 and you can pick up some really good defensive ammo for it that will more than get the job done (that a pistol was meant for) but the .40 has really good defensive ammo as well and will allow for future options that the 9mm cannot (the addition of a .357 sig or 9mm barrel to be precise).

I have a G-32 that I shoot those 3 calibers through it. For an investment of around $700 including the Storm Lake barrels and some 9mm mags (357 SIG & .40 S&W use the same mags) I have three compact Glocks.

| Gen 3 now, or Gen 4 later?
I am going to pick up my first firearm this week and it is going to be a G23. Never had my own, always shot friends guns. The only thing is the Gen 4's aren't sold here in CA yet. Should I wait for it to be available here? Thank you for any response.

You should go somewhere to hold a Gen 4, before you decide.
My wife and I carry the Gen 3 Glock 23. We think it is great.

Also, I thought the G23C was the model I wanted but I read that the muzzle flash of that model is more so than the G23. Just trying to narrow down my purchase. Thanks.

If you find the Gen 3 grip too large, too small or too slippery then the Gen 4 may be the answer. If you don't, the Gen 3 will serve you just fine. From what I hear the recall on the guide rod springs are a minor issue mostly for the 9mm not the .40s.

When I was at the SHOT Show, I shot something I believe it to be a generation 4 model. I really enjoyed shooting it.
I'm sure it was a bit more tricked out than normal...but either wait it was still good after having 30k+ rounds put through it.
