Glock & High Point

I will admit I was never a Glock lover to start but today I had a very interesting experience. I was visiting a friend who has about 20 acres of woods where he shoots. He owns 2 Glocks, a 9MM and a .40 S&W and also owns a High Point 9MM. I shot all three guns and I found the High Point to be more accurate and easier to shoot. Please don't take this wrong and think I am praising High Point. I wouldn't take one if it were given to me for free. I am not praising High Point. I am saying Glock fell even lower down the list of reliable, decent guns.

You are going to get some flak over this.
For what it's worth, I've never cared for Glock pistols either. I don't like their feel and have fired numerous pistols with more accuracy than Glock.
So now there are two of us...lol

Four words will tell you where I stand : Look at my Avatar

I trust Glock with my life every night I go to work. I have found them to be the easiest shooting handgun I have ever held. If its not for you, its not for you, to each his own, but I don't bash Hi Point or any other gun, so why bash my choice of firearm?

I was never a Glock guy myself but a High Point? As much as I don't care for Glock they are at least better than a High Point. Anyone who has read any of my posts knows I'm an XD man forever but even a Glock is better than a High Point.

Hi-points seem to be good firearms, I have shot a few and they all shot great. my personal choice is the Sig Sauer though. Glocks aren't bad handguns, they just aren't my choice. (Had numerous bad experiences with them).

Unfortunately I've not had the opportunity to shoot a Hi-Point (yet) but have handled a couple. They look as if they would be top heavy but don't seem to be when in the hand. I would think the recoil would be relative reduced by the weight of the slide...by appearances anyway.

I've shot both and don't have a problem with either one. They both shot accurately and reliably.

I dont want to sound insulting (Im not trying to be)

but as for glocks being inaccurate, thats the shooter not the gun. whether it be due to the different grip angle or unfamiliarity etc. When ever I shoot a new gun for whatever reasons my fundamentals seem go out the window and my groups are crap. But let me shoot a 50 round box and I guarantee by the end Ill be back to normal again lol. You just need to get used to it.

I know people who can hit targets 75 yards and out with one.

When I first fired a glock I couldnt hit crap with one, as I was use to a traditional 1911 style grip angle. The glock felt blocky and ungainly but Once I started shooting one regularly though, I got to be quite proficient with one. And I got used to the glock (traditional Luger angle) frame. And I dont even notice the difference when I pick up my kimber or my glock.

Im not a die hard glock fan boy I own a wide variety of makes of firearms but with something new, sometimes you just have to shoot it a little bit and get used to it. Some times you can do it, sometimes not.

robar now makes glocks with a switchable backstrap that makes the grip like a 1911.

im kinda the same way

im use to shooting smaller frame guns, when i handled a steyr m9 and a SW sigma, i had a hard time firing

but when handling an astra mod 400 and a makarov or .38, no problem shooting with those

The whole point of shooting a variety of handguns is to find the one that suits YOU. If it fits your hand right and it shoots right FOR YOU, it does not matter what I think of it. It's all about getting a pistol that performs FOR YOU.

I never had a revolver that fit my hand right until I bought a S&W Model 10 in .38 Special that wound up in the local gun shop out of a LEO's estate. He'd tweaked it and put custom grips on it. That pistol fits me like a master gunsmith took a mold of my hand and carved the grips to fit.

The first time I ever fired it, it went right into the 10-ring at 12 yards, the distance I train at for defensive pistol; and the worst hit I got out of the first box of ammo I put through it was in the 8-ring. It may not have the same cachet as a Model 29, but If I ever had to fire at a Bad Guy with it the Bad Guy would not be going home under his own power.

And that's what it's all about. I can't shoot that well with every pistol I pick up - but I can with that one. You couldn't pay me enough to part with it. That one is right.

I am equally accurate with my Glock 21 and my Hi-Point C9 pistols.

Neither one is my CC piece, but are both fun to own.

The Glock is just plain tough and is super-reliable. As far as I'm concerned, it has the reliability, durability, and simplicity of an AK-47.

I have to agree with Elvis. I wouldn't take a Glock or a High Point if they were free but if it came down to it I think High Point is a better deal gun for the dollar. I've never shot them side by side like Elvis did but I have shot a few High Points and many Glocks so I feel confident making that statement. I think the Glock craze has come to an end and we will see less and less of them as time goes on.
